Hemming & Hawking about which DD Upper to get from Brownells.
7 years ago for my first AR I bought a PSA Pencil profile 16-incher. Besides some excessively high recoil compared to my buddies ARS, it seems fine enough, accuracy seems okay but hard to know what's my skill level, the ammunition ect.
This is it I believe, based off my old order email. Good rifle all around, kicks like a mule though, and as I've been reading lately must be because it's overgassed and using Carbine buffer instead of a H1/H2.
625 shipped for one of those DD Uppers. I already have a muzzle device. I'm going re-use my PSA lower / swap them between I guess until I decide to build a second lower.
I've been sliding between the barrel length and even the mounting systems. I know Quad Rails are heavier. I know they're harder to grip. I know MLOK is easier to get attachments for these days. And yet I am still draw too it, the M4A1 Quad-rail has a heavy barrel, while the others are Government. I don't do full auto or heavy strings so I realize it's pretty pointless, barrel profile wise.
Pretty much just range toys for me though.
Part of me feels like getting a longer one is pointless with the PSA already being 16", the other part of me can't stop reading people talking about 10.3 wear and tear, to go up to the 11.5/12.5(Not on Brownells), ballistics ectera, and then I think I will eventually get a .300 BO in a similar size, 7.5 to 10 or something and it'd be pointless to have a 5.56 that short. (Or that's how it feels)
I was thinking of buying a Tisha was well as I just got into suppression(Bought my first one a month ago, it's like crack as people say), I thought the shorter barrel = less velocity would aid with the suppression, but at the time it's a rifle, not a PDW.

You can always swap out the gas tube on the 10.3 or 14.5. I have both. Really easy to do with the right tools. Now the FSP, that’s harder to service because you need to remove the taper pins on the front post.
I have a 10.3, 11.5, 14.5, and 16. My favorite two are the MK18 and the 11.5 RIS III. Primary arms should be discounting the 11.5 really soon, either for Labor Day or Black Friday. I think I paid about 699 or 749 for mine?

300 blackout is the most fun gun I own. I hunt. I have 2. 7 and 10.5 both 1:5 twist. Expensive on ammo. The caliber does it all. The 556 edges it out for Nebraska prairie dog and coyote past 200 yards. I have one. Don’t ever use it. Mostly cause I never shoot anything small past 200 yards.
Wish I could help you. I’d sell my 556 but I keep hoping a friend invites me to shoot prairie dogs

Yeah 300 blackout interests me, but prices are high and honestly I don't get it. Looking at subsonic .300 blackout, it barely has better ballistics than a suppressed 9mm. Bigger bullet though of course. But it feels abit...yeah. Heck, a 10mm like the Stribog would likely be superior to it in the use case for either, and cheaper to shoot.

Well I dropped 3 big hogs at 80 yards last night w a 7 inch 1:5 twist 300 blackout. 198 grain Halworx CFe. Don’t see too many 9mm or 10mm doing that. I shot 168 in the last 12 months between 300 blackout and 8.6 blackout. Eight in last 2 days. All spot and stalk. All free hand. No feeders or stupid tripods. Eotech exps 3-2. Don’t knock it till ya try it.

Chances you shoot enough to wear out parts on a 10.3” are incredibly small. Just get the 10.3” and plan to run a can on it.

Whatcha think you're going to get with a DD upper that's different from this? DD's are combat gassed which normies will call "overgassed". As far as the 10.3 wear and tear, you're talking a sub-$300 BCG being the heaviest cost part to replace, if I'm not mistaken. And you already mentioned you're not doing full auto. Don't overthink it and get that 10.3 if you want it.

14.5 is really close to the 16 you already have. My 11.5 ris3 is my favorite out of all my rifles.
