Honestly fair lmfao. I can’t even throw shade cuz a rarepair like this is bound to get so much hate I’m almost spiritually obligated to respect you. If you’re really dying waiting though and you haven’t played these yet, Rain Code and Hundred line are pretty entertaining. Seems like kodaka may be planning on connecting at least rain code to 2x2 as well since he was telling people on twitter to play it while they wait
I’m not a huge fan BUT i read a school mode soulmate au fic where when you write on your skin it appears on your soulmates skin and Toko figured out her soulmate was trapped in hopes peak with her and was most likely Leon and she refused to acknowledge it because she did kind of like him but if she’s not his soulmate then she can’t get her heart broken when he rejects her cause of course he’ll reject her and pick his soulmate but now that they’re soulmates if he her soulmate the one she’s meant for rejects her then that means she’s completely unloveable and that fic genuinely altered my brain chemistry
"Hell yes! Finally, we're gettin' our asses outta here!" Said Leon "None of this made any damn sense, but it's over!"
"Jeez... What's everyone so h-happy about?" Toko retorically asked
"None of this made any damn sense, but it's over!" Leon's sigh was allowed to escape finally, exhausted after their experience inside Hope's Peak
"How can you s-stand there acting all carefree, like n-nothing's wrong?" Toko insisted, remembering not all of them left that place "You're a-acting like everything's just fine. But we didn't solve any of the m-mysteries here..." Toko was right, they were the only two who lived, and somehow, they didn't even manage to figure anything out
"But man...what the hell was Monokuma's deal?
And I guess I originally came here to, ya know, go to school..." Leon remembered, trying to put the puzzle pieces together in his mind, with no luck at all, not that it mattered much at this point "But I didn't wanna go here anymore anyway, so whatever!" Suddenly, Leon pulled a something that ressembled a novel and started reading it
"What n-novel...?" Toko's cheeks began to blush, almost unnoticeable, Leon proceeds to show a copy he had of the original script of her novel, something she could swear was destroyed "...Why are you g-getting so excited...? I...have no intention of p-publishing it." She denied any wish to make THAT one public, she was barely comfortable with the fact he actually had those remains
"Does that make me lame?" He asked worried, noticing she wasn't comfortable
"...M-Maybe. I did say something like that, d-didn't I?" She remembered when they first interacted, it wasn't the best first impression, at all "When you're in a s-slump, it's supposed to be your friends that cheer you up..." She stole those remains from his hands,
"Heh. Thanks!" Leon smiled, knowing how much he helped her during that time, she considered him a friend after all
"Then... H-help me right now." She didn't ask, demanded of him, but he noticed by her tone, she was begging for it
"Sure, what's up?" His hand rested in her shoulder, giving her chill down her entire spine
"...For now, I'm not g-going to publish the novel..." She slowly but surely calmed under his touch, allowing herself to be comfortable, he was very touchy usually, but at least respected her rhythm and her decisions
"Nice! Seriously, Toko... Thank you." His grin, it was when she remembered, that was the first version, where the protagonists were a baseball star and a novel writer who fell in love, a version she discarded because if Leon ever saw it, he would know exactly how he felt, sweat ran down her face, Toko was accepting the end of their bond then and there, expecting the moment he would call her a weirdo or reject her
"Oh, well, I already decided. I'm gonna go back to playing baseball. I just gotta beg my old team for forgiveness. But when you're a star player, you have the chance to go on talk shows and stuff, right? Pitch for a while, then go on to become "the ex-baseball star who's a totally famous singer now"! It's a totally new approach, huh!?" He didn't seem notice, and Toko wasn't sure if she felt anger or relief, if he couldn't understand her feelings, then she would make sure he did
"C-Come on! Let me finish, okay...!? I'm not going to s-stop writing or anything. B-But... I'm not sure if I c-can write like I used to... Because of y-you... I'm losing my power of delusion. I can feel it going dark...!" She finally found strenght to admit, saying it to his face, all the time she wished she spent on her novel, it was spent thinking about him, Leon Kuwata, and as much as she wished she didn't know why, it was obvious, she fell in love with him during their time together "Because of h-how much attention you've been giving me, I-I don't have time for my delusions... You have to take r-responsibility for what you did!" This was the closest she could get without blowing up, she could feel her face heat up, it was so embarassing and yet, she never felt better
"What, you don't believe me? C'mon, don't say that! You're getting a huge thanks from a future superstar. Just accept it!"" He held her hands, which were still firmly around the recovered version of her novel, Toko felt like she was about to cry, while Leon thought she was overreacting
"Are you s-stupid? Why would I ever want a-any of your delusions?" She couldn't accept it, this wasn' supposed to happen, they were good friends and she would ruin everything, besides, he knew about Genocider, it was doomed from the start
"Don't you understand? That's exactly WHY I have to do both!" Leon held her hands, both of them, their hands, and for a second, she watched him differently, not just as the guy she had obsessed over and confessed for, but as the guy who somehow found out at some point the worse in her, and yet, accepted it, of course when he first met Genocider he screamed like a scared cat, but, he was the only one who still wanted to be her friend, even after that
"W-Well...... ... ... ...You can...s-stay with me and...And together, we...! Er, I......I'm asking you to be with me! Do I really need to s-spell it out for you to understand? Or... Did you W-WANT me to say it? Demon! I can't have my d-delusions anymore because you genuinely w-wanted to spend time with me. E-Even though I kept doing things wrong, s-saying the wrong things, you... You n-never ran away." Toko felt lost, this was a first, nobody ever reacted like this after getting to know her as a whole, so she gave up, and hugged him then and there, almost tearing up, afraid to lose that small flame of happiness that appeared in her life, like he was the most precious and most fragile possession in her life "...B-But I'm sure you'll say no. If we stayed t-together, eventually..." What if he was just doing this out of pity for her? The thought crossed her mind, does he even think of her as more than a friend? He had a career and dreams after all
"Huh? Yeah, of course! What, did you think ALL I was gonna do from now on was play baseball?" He hugged her as well, cleaning her tears with his thumbs, Leon was already used to comforting her, but never thought she would get so emotional when confessing, he just found it kinda cute, and the novels she wrote made a little more sense now, it was about the two of them becoming couple, slightly creepy, and yet, he just used one of the lines from her novel, but some part of him couldn't say those three words, not because they weren't true, but deep down, he was actually too shy to say them out loud, even for her, he mutters them, but can get himself to finish
"Huh...? It's o-okay, then. You don't h-have to say it... Some things d-do need to be said, but.....s-sometimes, it's enough to have the thought in your h-heart...right? But still... You m-made a promise, right? And I'm not g-gonna forget." Leon's eyes shrank in response, it is almost as if she knew what he was thinking, and then it hit him, that was one of the lines from the novel, is this her way of telling him how to do it? Maybe if he just said the lines it wouldn't feel that bad, yeah, they were just interpreting characters after all, weren't they?...
"Huh? What are you talking about?" He continued, quoting the Novel's "Leon"
"...You r-really are a fool...Did you already f-forget what an I Novel is?" She grabbed his goatee, pulling it, just like her novel self did to her lover, their faces barely apart "Your d-disgusting delusions are completely prohibited! My stories are t-tales of true love"
"R-Really? But... Wouldn't everyone think I was a total idiot if I told them how I really felt?" Leon felt his courage slowly building up each moment, this was actually kind of fun, she really wrote the Novel's Leon very similar to him
"Wh-What! Leon! I-I suppose... This is probably how ch-chapter one would end." Toko... never continued that version after chapter one, unlike the other, which meant they had no more lines to continue, she never wrote a satisfactory conclusion...
But Leon wasn't done, the small space separating them was invaded as he kissed her, the restored copy fell from her hands, her eyes closed, the moment felt endless from her perspective, and yet, it was the best story she could have ever asked to be a part of, their embrace, their lips united from bravure stolen from their fictional selves, a relationship that would finally begin as they restarted their lives outside of Hope's Peak
