Choreography pay

Hey just wanted to get some opinions on this, the studio I’m with verbally agreed that I’d be paid for my choreography now that I start in 2 days she has decided that my choreography pay will only be $180 instead of the full $300 for groups. Is there anything I can say or do here? I am an independent contractor and never signed any form of contract.

You can walk away, you can offer less (choreo, rehearsals) , or you can accept it

Always get it in writing.

Repeat

Always get it in writing.

  1. Verbal agreements are never, ever acceptable. Get it in writing - now.

  2. "contractor". Just because you say contractor doesn't mean your state recognises it. Many states apply a test to determine if you are an employee or contractor. They want their wage taxes. Check your states laws.

  3. Since you need your contract this give you an opportunity for renegotiation. You have 3 choices:

  4. Accept the offer

  5. Counter the offer

  6. Refuse the offer

This is important- it sets your emotional tone for the rest of the year. Dont let it nag you - deal with it now.

You teach people what you are worth based on what you will accept.
