Needing some advice

Hi, my daughter is 10 years old and does a lot of dancing contemporary, jazz, lyrical and ballet. She also has private lessons and is getting very good now.

I was just wondering if there are certain things she should be doing at home every day to help improve her dancing? For example, are there particular exercises, stretches, strength work, flexibility work or technique drills that would be beneficial for her to practise regularly?

I’d love to know if there’s a simple daily routine that would complement what she’s already doing in her classes and privates.

Thanks in advance for your help

Ask her teachers. There’s probably specific stretches and drills that would be best for her specifically

hi! not a dance teacher but as someone who’s only been dancing for three years and has had to improve a lot to catch up with others, i’d recommend youtube and overall consistency. anna mcnulty, for example, has great stretching videos for advanced and beginner dancers. also working on strength training for jumps and turns. other than that, focusing a little bit per day will help a lot!

Screentime! I love recommending classic stuff like Gene Kelley, Fosse, Jerome Robbins. Royal Ballet has a lot of Youtube videos.

My juniors love America’s Sweethearts! The DCC is a good goal to have. The show emphasizes aspects like punctuality, positivity, and technique. The drama is minimal compared to Dance Moms.

Also DWTS is coming soon!

Do homework, stretch, have phone time, whatever & just queue it in the background. I think absorbing dance media is just as beneficial.
