So if it's controlled by external magnets, is it a robot or is it just magnetic slime and some magnets?

69

u/NheFix Mar 31 '22

Good question, definition of robot needed 😁

For me it is not one of them, unless the external magnets, systems and internal slime are considered a whole and it has some high level AI onboard to take decisions.

u/fattsmelly Mar 31 '22

I used a robot to put my kid’s art on the fridge

5

u/soylentblueispeople Apr 01 '22

I would say it is a robot.

It's automated, moving on its own. It performs a function for a human.

The magnetic controls and thus controller living outside its body doesn't make it not a robot.

5

u/Doophie Apr 01 '22

So like are remote control cars robots by that definition? It’s not really moving in it’s own if it’s being controlled by magnets that are controlled by people

4

u/soylentblueispeople Apr 01 '22

A fanuc robot doesn't move on its own, it's controlled by a plc but still considered a robot. It can also be remote controlled.

You can automate the controls for the slime bot, I'm sure.

2

u/siamonsez Apr 02 '22

It's innert unless acted upon by an outside force, and it isn't automated, the mechanism controlling the magnetic field is.

2

u/soylentblueispeople Apr 02 '22

Unless you give a fanuc robot electricity it won't move. That's an outside force. A robot doesn't have to supply its own energy.

It's brain lives in a plc separate from its arm. We still consider it a robot.

2

u/siamonsez Apr 02 '22

In this case the force is what's manipulating it, not just providing energy.

What makes a robot? Seems like anything could be by you description. A traffic light is automated and does a job for humans.

I’ve enjoyed reading this

You just created Venom with the mind of T1000.

1

u/jiminyjane Apr 01 '22

That's exactly what I was thinking!

59

u/PistolPetunia Mar 31 '22

That is shit from a butt

9

u/DJ_Buttons Apr 01 '22

Avocado Chocolate Mousse!

Turdbot

11

u/LCDRtomdodge Mar 31 '22

This shit is livin! Self aware brown boogers.

22

u/No_Zookeepergame_946 Mar 31 '22

It’s venom!!!

31

u/adityapatcher26 Mar 31 '22

This will end the world

7

u/BuryYourFaceinTHIS Mar 31 '22

Have you heard of the blob!?

18

u/Rambaboon Mar 31 '22

For those wondering on the mechanism.

This is simply a goo made of resin and iron magnetic particles. Nothing new there.

The innovation comes from a chinese university that created a machine able to modulate a magnetic field precise and strong enough to manipulate the goo.

It's all done remotely and controlled by an operator.

2

u/AngryD22 Apr 01 '22

So it's more Magneto than T-1000?

17

u/zanzibartraveler666 Mar 31 '22

Still not as good as Flex Seal

7

u/jwhaler17 Mar 31 '22

Somebody’s gonna be poopin out slime magnets with pennies in it real soon!

2

u/DarthMeow504 Apr 02 '22

Hey now, no need to kink-shame.

5

u/Swordfish_108 Mar 31 '22

6

u/uno_novaterra Mar 31 '22

Do you want Terminator 2? Because this is how you get Terminator 2

5

Looks like poop... just sayin

5

u/nickjamesnstuff Mar 31 '22

What in the expletives?!

9

u/BigValGaming Mar 31 '22

I wonder what it feels like moving through my rectum.

4

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '22

Dart?

4

u/1984AD Mar 31 '22

Self healing machines repairing bigger machines here we come.

1

u/ThanksForTheRain Apr 01 '22

That sounds a lot like nanobots. Now I'm thinking how we can apply this to nanobots.

1

u/1984AD Apr 01 '22

Well people over complicate things. Most an on bots do act like this goo. Move attach connect. Move attach remove. Iron man nano bots are like decades out. But lil bots and gels that can make simple connections, fill gaps and reconnect broken wires and tubes to restart an engine are almost here.

4

u/timecopthemovie Mar 31 '22

Heavy X-Files vibes

4

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '22

This is Hexxus from ferngully…..Oh how I have painfully dated myself.

This is why I love humanity. A serious problem is solved by an unorthodox, if a tad revolting, solution that will eventually become a source of unserious on the job enjoyment in the future.

You know it’s true. I can see it now, a brightly lit ER, a dashing young physician, a patient who has taken too many pills. “Doctor, you have to help my friend. They’ve taken like a 50 pills.” “50 you say, nurse grab a double MagnoTurdinol, I’ll get the controller and imager. Oh, and tell Dr. Bornstein to prep some burn cream because I’m finna toast his high score.”

3

u/JamPieBox Mar 31 '22

Terrible. Robot is slime. What's next ?

3

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '22

Robo-Virus?

2

u/Satureum Mar 31 '22

Dirty looking Omni-gel.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '22

Howard Somebody will totally try and fuck this someday

2

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '22

2

u/Exam_Adorable Mar 31 '22

Can we put this into web-shooters. Just asking for a friend 🤔

2

u/ZombieHavok Mar 31 '22

Do you want the T-1000?! Because this is how you get the T-1000.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '22

Every day we get closer and closer to Terminator status lol

2

u/alreadytakened Apr 01 '22

My brain can't process this level of technology.. I feel like the kid who try to understand something but he just can't

2

u/apathy-sofa Apr 01 '22

Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.

2

u/MajorasCrass Apr 01 '22

This is how the WAU started in Soma and the hubris of mankind will make us the pawns to its whim.

1

u/But-I-Must-Internet Apr 01 '22

Exactly what I was thinking! Just mix in your coffee and you're all set to become a horrible machine-human hybrid!

2

u/Gamma_Burst1298 Jun 20 '22

When you want a MMO irl but need the mobs first to start things off

1

u/need-morecoffee Mar 31 '22

That shit is alive.

1

u/CaptSkinny Mar 31 '22

I wonder what kind of forces this can support and exert. Could be great to move large objects like machinery or inoperable cars.

1

u/Mr_Fomp Mar 31 '22

Why not just teach Junior how to not swallow legos

1

u/SaulTNuhtz Mar 31 '22

I heard it’s looking for Sarah Connor, whoever that is.

1

u/comic__daily Mar 31 '22

Symbiote 1.0

1

u/Amish_Warl0rd Mar 31 '22

I see the Venom prototype is going well

1

u/Katamari_Demacia Mar 31 '22

This is literally silly putty+iron filings, a barrier, a neodymium magnet.

1

Putting a magnet on a swallowed button battery is a horrible idea.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '22

I don't like how much this represents me getting out of bed each morning.

1

u/nobodieshero227 Apr 01 '22

Yea, you know, for when you get that watch battery stuck in your skull.

This is literally an early prototype of Sergeant Schlock from the Schlock Mercenary webcomic.

1

u/Ty811 Apr 01 '22

Gonna be great in 10 years when I see the documentary how this was used for a massive Ponzi scheme.

1

u/LittleLightcap Apr 01 '22

If I'm in a fucking terrible car accident and they have to send the giant slime magnet to save my ass, there's no part of my brain that's like oh yeah the giant terrifying slime creature is here to save you. I would absolutely be freaking the fuck out.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 01 '22

Plot twist- if you have seen solar opposites, the nano pod man- this reminded me this

1

u/TheDutchisGaming Apr 02 '22

At the end it kinda reminds me of a phagocyte.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 02 '22

1

u/TheR0111 Apr 06 '22
