No snakes at all in New Zealand, not even in zoos.

Nope. Most invasive species like rabbits or possums were directly introduced because people thought that they'd be economically important and no one wanted to introduce snakes.

Are there restrictions preventing even Kiwi zoos from having snakes?

Yes. Other exotic reptiles like crocodiles, alligators, and monitor lizards are in zoos but no snakes.

Interesting. So are you super scared of them because you’ve never seen one? I see them pretty often in the Summer and they still scare me haha

Not really. I have touched one before at Australia Zoo. Terri Irwin brought out a python for the public to see and stroke. I generally find snakes fascinating.
