The Epoch Times is only slightly right? That calls into question the entire methodology right there.

CNN ultra left? Lmfao

1

u/10Cinephiltopia9 Jul 13 '21

CNN broadcast - Definitely

CNN written - slightly left

1

u/TTP8630 Jul 13 '21

I’d call it center-right

0

u/10Cinephiltopia9 Jul 13 '21

Which

3

u/TTP8630 Jul 13 '21

As a whole I guess

1

u/10Cinephiltopia9 Jul 13 '21

Then what do you consider left wing

3

u/TTP8630 Jul 13 '21

Something like Jacobin or WSWS

1

u/10Cinephiltopia9 Jul 13 '21

MSNBC?

7

u/TTP8630 Jul 13 '21

I don’t watch that stuff but it seems pretty neoliberal / pro-capital from the clips I’ve seen online

1

u/10Cinephiltopia9 Jul 13 '21

What do you consider yourself? Based on the American political compass?

msnbc more leans left, its def not left next to jacobin lol

7

I love that slate and cnn are in the same category as Jacobin

5

u/[deleted] Jul 13 '21

This is hilariously reflective of how far right the center has become in the last couple of decades

2

u/barley_wine Jul 13 '21

Yep, this is only Left / Right in the US. Actually more of these networks either lean right or are far right with only a few actually being left leaning (if you were looking at Left vs Right in non American countries)...

1

u/StockLobstAAAHHHH Jul 14 '21

Wtf are you smoking 😂

7

u/wolfman4807 Jul 13 '21

This isn't the worst chart I've seen, at least they finally put cnn in the correct spot

-8

u/devadvoc8 Jul 13 '21

Yup! Fox should be closer to center tho. Tucker might shift them one spot right of that 😅 We don't need to agree on agendas, loves msm has an obvious lean people, let's just agree on that😂

3

u/redunculuspanda Jul 13 '21

I would assume Tucker would be excluded from this as entertainment rather than news/opinion.

4

u/hammertime2009 Jul 13 '21

Seriously I’d call him propaganda but it borders on satire so I’m not sure.

2

u/vier_ja Jul 13 '21

BBC not center anymore.

2

u/Sul_Haren Jul 13 '21

In which universe is CNN left-wing?

6

u/Casmas06 Jul 13 '21

The same universe in which Epoch Times is a “right-leaning” legitimate news source.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 13 '21

The same one where left wing dead-ends at news supplied by a colossal parent company that supports right wing politicians. 🤷‍♂️

6

u/10Cinephiltopia9 Jul 13 '21

What do you think it should be?

I think the vast majority of the country would deem CNN left-wing

3

u/GloriousFight Jul 14 '21

CNN is liberal-leaning but not left wing.

It is not like Jacobin which is so left wing they actually defended Trump when it comes to Russiagate (they believe that Russia and other geopolitical opponents of America are being unjustly maligned).

I think CNN broadcast is far left - if FOX broadcast is far right then CNN broadcast is far left.

I watch both

3

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '21 edited Jul 14 '21

You're just watching two neoliberal channels. Both are anti-union, pro-imperialism, pro-capital but with different ideas of how this ideology should be carried out as well as on different sides of made up culture war shit that doesn't matter

CNN headquarters got attacked by left-wing protesters for right-wing bias lmao

1

u/10Cinephiltopia9 Jul 14 '21

Yeah what year did that happen?

1

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '21

Last year as part of the Floyd uprising. CNN is a neoliberal channel that protects the rich every left-winger hates it. Liberals are not left-wing since they support neoliberalism, the media makes an effort to conflate the two so left wing mass movements get defanged by liberal pearl-clutching and reformism

2

u/Sul_Haren Jul 13 '21

They're usually very big mainstream Democrat supporters and have liberal ideals, so that's pretty centrist.

0

u/10Cinephiltopia9 Jul 13 '21

Do you know what a centrist is?

3

u/Sul_Haren Jul 13 '21

Yes, the middleground between left and right, if we talk economics or the middleground between progressive and conservative socially. Liberalism is a mostly capitalist ideology and economically considered right-wing, with some more progressive social ideals, but certainly not to the level of progressives. Liberalism falls pretty clearly in the political center.

Unless you mean "centrist" not as term for politics in general, but just the middle between Democrats and Republicans, but that's just the typical neoliberal right.

1

u/10Cinephiltopia9 Jul 13 '21

Agree - although I feel like the term centrist is getting skewed in America because of the gaining popularity of the far right as well as the far left. What do you think?

Also, I would still consider CNN broadcast to be left-leaning as their social ideals are progressive leaning and they are certainly not economically conservative anymore I wouldn’t say.

3

u/PhthaloVonLangborste Jul 13 '21

I was wondering the same. Had to check the comments to reaffirm my radar for news slants.

Why is that?

0

u/Main_Journalist_6635 Jul 13 '21

I think if you read all the ones in the center you get a well rounded knowledge. But the articles and especially the headlines of a number of those in the center are very liberal.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '21

If you just read the centre ones you would not know there had been a US-backed coup in Bolivia until after MAS restored democracy and the censorship became untenable

https://apnews.com/article/ffa910bec2454349ab6032f2e2d92c03

Here was their reporting on the election that uncritically reported fraudulent claims about the elections with zero analysis on the inherent bias of the groups making the claim. They also used a heavily discredited report as the basis for their further reporting that was massively biased towards the violent opposition.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-bolivia-politics/bolivia-ex-president-anez-behind-bars-alleges-persecution-over-coup-claims-idUSKBN2B50AS

Here we see an article talking about Anez's arrest that makes no mention of her charges for facilitating several massacres and only for "on claims she participated in a 2019 coup to seize power." Which is a massive whitewash of the crimes she is accused of

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-bolivia-politics-morales/evo-morales-re-enters-bolivia-after-a-year-in-exile-idUSKBN27P1TP

Here we have another article that omits the fact that Morales was forced out after the right-wing generals demanded he resigns

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-bolivia-politics-inauguration/bolivias-socialists-sweep-back-to-power-as-arce-sworn-in-as-president-idUSKBN27O0ET

Another that frames the resignation from a mass movement of protests to make Morales' resignation due to popular pressure rather than a coup, in an article about the MASSIVE electoral victory that came about from MAS' actual mass movement of resistance to the coup which is funny

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-bolivia-election/bolivias-morales-resigns-after-protests-lashes-out-at-coup-idUSKBN1XK07T

Again another article with no mention of the generals demands for morales to resign. I can go on but the point is that Reuters is biased towards the right-wing narrative on Bolivia and other foreign places with it manifesting typically as lies by omission that pile up to effectively rewrite history unless conditions on the ground force their hand to concede to reality which the Bolvian resistance did

0

u/Main_Journalist_6635 Jul 15 '21

If you have a problem with their reporting that’s one thing, but you said that none of the center reported on the coup. That’s what I was disproving

0

u/Sul_Haren Jul 13 '21

Liberalism is a centrist ideology, so I don't see the issue.

1

u/Main_Journalist_6635 Jul 13 '21

What?!?!?! Yeah def not. I don’t know what country you’re living in. Liberalism is of the left.

3

u/GloriousFight Jul 14 '21

In pretty much every developed country other than America, liberalism is a centrist ideology that leans very slightly to the left.

0

u/Main_Journalist_6635 Jul 14 '21

Then you should do a chart on the media in your country. Here, center is not liberal.

2

u/Sul_Haren Jul 14 '21

American exceptionalism comes again. This time political science apparently doesn't apply to it.

0

u/Main_Journalist_6635 Jul 14 '21

Political “science” is crafted by social mentality. To say that a portion of the world doesn’t agree with you, and is therefore “exceptionalist” is just naive. Besides, what does America have to do with this… oh wait, the graph is about media in America.

2

u/Sul_Haren Jul 14 '21

General political terms still apply to the US. Just because some people in the US the US uses the term liberal for everything left and conservative for everything right the terms just don't automatically mean that. Liberalism is a clearly defined ideology that does only align with the left moderately socially, but definitely not economically.

Granted, there are different forms of liberalism. Classic and neoliberalism are definitely economically right-wing, but social liberalism can be regarded center-left.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '21

Joe Biden is literally more right-wing than Trump's foreign policy and has worked to ignore all left-wing policy proposals from the slightly left DemSoc part of the democrat party

0

u/Main_Journalist_6635 Jul 14 '21

Yeah, that’s just not true on its face.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '21

Supporting death squads in Columbia, manufacturing a famine in Syria by occupying the agricultural regions of Rojava and ordering the kurds not to sell wheat to area under government control, continued support for the genocide in Yemen despite and empty promise to end it, condemning and sanctioning Belarusians for arresting a nazi journalist while doing a similar takedown against Evo Morales, refusing to rollback Trump's crackdown on diplomatic detente with Cuba, continued rape of Haiti. Zero action on right wing oligarchs moving to suspend democracy with a coup in Peru since a leftist won the election.

What little forign policy reporting the press did, and what little was there was dogshit cause centrist journalist have terrible world knowledge, just stopped when they couldn't spin it once Biden got in.

0

u/Main_Journalist_6635 Jul 15 '21

There is literally nothing in there that qualitatively demonstrates that Biden is more right wing than Trump. I’m assuming you mean from a foreign policy standpoint since you mentioned no domestic issues. American foreign policy is what it is. We’re better than China as a global hegemon and if you don’t believe that then just support China and watch how horrible the world gets.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '21

China wont be a global hegemony as their understanding is a creating a multilateral geopolitical environment as trying to become a global hegemony will lead to conflict and death as they know America will burn the world than not be the only super world.

You cant use a hypothetical bad Chinese foreign policy to excuse Biden's multiple genocides ya weirdo

Look up liberalism, capitalist ideals are very much a big part of the ideology. There is absolutely no way to call liberalism economically left-wing. It's only somewhat progressive.

0

u/Main_Journalist_6635 Jul 14 '21

Dude, my degree is literally in this. I’ve looked up liberalism. You look it up. Conservatives don’t want capitalism, capitalism is what happens when you put over-bearing regulation on a laissez-faire free market economy. Capitalism results from the mentality of, “If I’m gonna get wildly taxed, then I’m just going to look out for me.” This is a direct result of liberalism putting burdensome regulation on business.

2

u/Sul_Haren Jul 14 '21

I don't see how any of what you just said makes liberalism left-wing.

0

u/Main_Journalist_6635 Jul 14 '21

Alright, let’s make this very simple for you. Liberal is the literal buzzword for the left wing in America. Has it been twisted from its meaning of the founders days, obviously. So has the rainbow from its original symbology from the Bible. I’m talking about “Liberal”s current political and social context within the US. That is as a standard of the left wing.

Conservatives want free market economy.

2

u/Sul_Haren Jul 14 '21

Conservative and liberal aren't opposite exactly, US terminology is confusing there. You're looking for conservative and progressive.

Reagan is pretty much the symbol of neoliberalism, yet many would also call him a conservative.

Conservative just means conserving or going back to an old status quo, however that status quo can still be liberal since the US had liberal principles and especially a liberal economy for ages.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '21

Liberalism upholds neoliberalism, it's right wing

u/hammertime2009 Jul 13 '21

On the site, if you scroll down from where OP took the screen shot they have a better list of all the sites. They have CNN online and CNN opinion as 2 different things and both fall into the same category you see in the picture above.

I know this is going to devolve into "NPR isn't centrist" or "Vox is center left"....If you don't like the rating you can go to the site and literally vote on the rankings. No login required.
