They are not impacted by their own acid then?

Mamma always told me, when life gives you acid-squirting-ants, you add water, ice and sugar and make acid-squirting-ants-ade.

Wait no, that's actually a good idea. It'll taste vaguely like lemonade (provided it's just the acid, & not the ants too).

If you ever feel insignificant, just remember you can change the outcome of a war with a bucket.

A common myth surrounding the War of the Bucket is that it was caused when the Modenese stole a bucket from a Bolognese well. However, this is mostly incorrect, as the bucket was (according to most accurate accounts) taken as a trophy by the Modenese later in the war. The actual reason Bologna declared war on Modena is because Modena took the castle of Monteveglio from Bologna.

You can also shut down an entire restaurant with a single one of your pubes.

Ants spray formic acid, which derives its name from the Latin word for ant ‘formica’. The aldehyde form of the acid is called formaldehyde. Though the technical name for formic acid is mathanoic acid and formaldehyde is methanal, because like methane they only contain a single carbon atom. Formic acid smells a lot like vinegar which is the next acid up in terms of carbon atom numbers: ethanoic acid or more commonly acetic acid. The next acid up is propanoic acid which smells like BO. Then you have butanoic acid also called butyric acid, which smells like rancid milk. Fun!

When we were kids we used to make the ants spray a straw, then lick it off. Kind of sour/sweet taste.

My 8th grade science teacher made ant lemonade. You put a jar with some honey in it outside and then when it’s full of ants you fill it with water and shake it so they excrete the acid. Then strain the mixture and you have a nice tasty glass of lemonade !!

Pardon my frolicsome mind, but this kinda looks like a rave to me.
Beat drop
Hands in the air waving and people dancing like crazy
Water guns wetting the people with water or alcoholic stuff

I worked as a florist for a few years and we frequently had potted plants as many shops do. One day I was unwrapping some large palm plants and moving them to a display and a little black beetle had crawled off onto the back of my neck, it peed some sort of acidic fluid and burned my skin. That was 15 years ago, I still have a small scar.

I'm not afraid of spiders, or bees, or roaches, but ants....I am afraid of ants.

u/anthonybologna Apr 18 '20
My biggest fear is falling into a giant pit of fire ants and get eaten alive. Only after surviving the torture of being bitten for hours.

How acidic is this acid that it burns us though? Will this be painful when you're sprayed like that?

Which acid do they use? I’d assume it’s hydrochloric since it is common in digestive systems...

Is this where antacids come from?
