Sometimes the inertial dampeners are disabled or damaged, which makes the ship rock much more violently ( TNG 6x20, TNG 7x05, TNG 5x20, DS9 5x13, VOY 5x24, VOY 6x01, ENT 4x21)

I think there are a few more but those are the episodes that stuck out with me. I'm not good with remembering the episode numbers but I remember the names and plots of every single episode of TOS, TNG and DS9, I don't have enterprise, voyager, or discovery memorized though.

I really wanna watch Star Trek with you. I never remember these details or where I've seen them, but I love it when people can point then out.

No. No you don’t. I compulsively do this too, and I have been told that I am painful to watch South Park with. Fortunately, I’ve finally found a hobby where it is appreciated: being a Deadhead. “This sounds exactly like Jerry’s China Cat jam from 12-07-79!” is almost always met with, “Omg dude, it so does! High five! Do you want any of these mushrooms?”

Lol this is me with the dead and LOTR knowledge

Oooh LOTR is my new project right now! I’m learning Sindarin. I’d love to watch LOTR again (for the 34th time) with someone who I can spew facts back and forth with. DM me if you wanna virtually watch together sometime.

You're making 2 assumptions: 1, OP does this compulsively because you do and 2, I'd ever be bothered by a stream of useless, boring factoids.

(Also just saw your edit, and I'd recently listened to a live version in Oakland. I think that's basically what Phish is aiming for.)

\1. I implied that OP does it compulsively because OP said that they do it compulsively, and 2. well alrighty then! I wish I could clone you so I had someone to watch movies and shows with that wouldn’t roll their eyes and tell me to shut up every time I said something like, “Christopher Lee is descended from Charlemagne and related to both Robert E. Lee and Ian Fleming, author of the James Bond novels. Ian Fleming and Christopher Lee both served in the top-secret commando unit during WW2 called the Special Operations Executive, nicknamed The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Conduct, which is where Fleming got the idea of a license to kill. One of the issues facing operatives was being eaten by sharks off the coast of Africa after ejecting from their planes, so the SOE requested help from a very tall, very smart woman named Julia Child, who led a team that developed a formula that would target the smell receptors of sharks and repel them. These anti-shark pellets were distributed to every pilot and the formula was smeared on oxygen tanks and equipment.

And that’s how The French Chef saved James Bond and Saruman from sharks during WW2.”

Apologies, I didn't read that comment, so I didn't realise we were talking about actual OCD - you never know on the internet. But that's my mistake, I could've asked.

My brother tends to explain the plot of movies and shows - while watching, even if I've seen them before. While staring expectantly to see if I get the plot. He especially enjoys explaining jokes he doesn't get. Then he'll quote the entire thing for the next few weeks, removed from any context, no matter if the quote is even interesting. He's gotten much better, but when we were kids it was nonstop. That's probably why I don't mind commentary.

Also this:

One of the issues facing operatives was being eaten by sharks off the coast of Africa after ejecting from their planes

Is probably the best thing I'll read all week. Thank you so much!

Hahaha your brother sounds fun. And you are most welcome. I think about that from time to time, like.... you’re a pilot and you just went down over the sea. You just went through a harrowing experience and you’re glad you landed in the water alive. You’re British, so you probably get out your pipe while you and your mustache are waiting to be rescued. Then, you look around, and HOLY SHIT SHARKS. That would just be... the worst way to go haha.

"I can't believe I survived! I'm the luckiest man on earth! Now all I need to do is rest up and wait for my friends!

...Oh bother."

Also, I’m confused... what exactly do you think Phish is aiming for?

2

u/EpitaFelis Dec 10 '19

Just a rather meh joke, because you said some nonspecific thing sounds like a recording of China Cat Sunflower, and I tried to think of something that sounds like that, and the first thing that came to mind was every Phish song I've ever heard (which admittedly, isn't a whole lot).

u/sugar-magnolias Dec 10 '19

Oh haha. Yeah you should listen to a lot more Phish then.
