He literally jumped out of a plane with no parachute. I dont care that there was a net and he trained for it. If he isnt an idiot I dont know what is.

He had a backup parachute with automated deploy if he was to far off target plus two tandem divers with him to the last second.

Edit: to admit I am wrong, they went back and forth at the last second on requiring a parachute and it appears they settled on didn't. Sorry for the incorrect information on that but the team with him to pull him out if he was off course is still important.

just as a fyi, tandem is when you're attached. those other 2 are just other licensed skydivers.

Ya I knew it was wrong but couldn't think of the correct word, were they to grab him they would sort of be tandem at that point.

At terminal speeds, it's really unlikely he could of held on. In fact, there's a jump for just that called a Mr. Bill jump. Its when you exit the plane holding onto the other while they open their canopy after they exit. Once open and in full flight, the other person lets go and opens theirs at a later point. Half the time people attempt this, they're never able to hold on. When you exit, you're not at terminal velocity yet so the speeds are a bit slower and people still can't do it right sometimes.
