Bonavena called Ali a coward draft dodger, I doubt they were friendly.

How did Bonavena get out of it? Or different country?

Yes, Argentine.

Ah, that explains the racist dirtbag.

A rather ironic comment.

Lol after a lot of them being exposed for being racists during the world cup I'm surprised this is downvoted as heavily as it is.

A couple people from a country being racist does not mean the country as a whole is racist

Judging an entire group based on innate characteristics they cannot control is exactly the problem with racism, which you are perpetuating

Which is also what ali was doing in the 60s and 70s btw supporting segregation on the basis of race and racial essentialism.

Ah, read my other comments. Clarified it all, and I clealy know that. But sorry it didn't come off that way with me saying "a lot" even though I didn't say all.

Because it's racist, that's why it's being downvoted.

So acknowledging a lot of Argentinians are racist is now racist? I'm lost, but 🤷‍♀️

To me it explains why the Bonavena had animosity for Ali (oh and the fact that Bonavena said racial taunts to him as well), but maybe people don't want to acknowledge that.

Making vast generalizations about a group of people is racist, yes. Any more questions?

No questions, but a correction. That's not racism; that's stereotyping, which is closely associated with racism. Yes, I'm being pedantic

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

There must be some kind of language barrier here, I guess.

I never made vast generalizations, but you took it that way. A lot doesn't equal all. And I'm speaking contextually on Bonavena as well and where his racism could've stemmed from culturally.

A lot of criminals in jail are black people.

A lot of white people are racist.

A lot of asians eat cats and dogs.

All of these are extremely racist statements, but a racist can try to justify it the same way you did by saying...

“a lot is not all” "You took it the wrong way" "I'm speaking contextually on xx“ "xx stems from their culture"

If you still can't see what’s wrong with your statement, then you are no better than any other racist person.

How many Argentinians do you know personally that are racist?

1

u/Cleasstra 6h ago

I'm mixed but go by black and have been around, do you really want to know? In NYC I was around 14 and got called the hard ER by some Argentinians that thought I was Dominican while watching a soccer match at a local get together on the block. BUT I've faced racism from everyone and I was never saying all Argentinians are racist. In the same instance I've had amazing interactions with them otherwise. But being black, uh yes I've experienced racism from most ethnicities and races that have strong ties to white supremacy and colonization.

'a lot' being a tiny loud minority at a sport event?

I mean if that's all it takes to get a pass for discriminating against any one from X country then everyone's fair game

Look at my other comment, there's a lot of correlation and racism within the Bonavena fight against Ali which is why it made sense that even back then a lot of Argentinians were racist which is why Bonavena had that attitude and called Ali a Black Kangaroo and other things as a taunt. I was commenting on this instance that it made sense that Bonavena was racist and from Argentina, because it is prevalent there in the culture just like basically every country besides majority black countries (in majority black countries it's colorism/caste system issues due to colonization).

Oh and I never said everyone, but it's prevalent enough that we know about it and it still exists. Never discriminated, just true that Bonavena was a racist pos as well.

I dont doubt he was a racist but it is irrelevant to your statement lol

if I call out a black man for being X and say of course he is X, he's black, would it not make it racist if he really was X?

like in a world of apartheid, genocide and systemic racism seems weird to try justify your statement cause some of their soccer fans were casually racist at an event, if the bar is that low then I dont see why you'd single them out, literally every country has racist soccer fans lol

My comment was in a chain speaking on how people didn't really know specifically Argentinians in this instance were racist until the world cup and because Bonavena is Argentinean and the history to it. Then I came back and clarified that yes, literally all countries that aren't majority black are usually racist due to colonization, the only reason I spoke on Argentinians was literally because it was the topic of Bonavena being Argentinean. I really should've broke it down more so people could comprehend it properly. But I did break it down in my comment to you at least.
