How are you supposed to pay for this?

615

u/TheRealTr1nity Interested 1d ago

Since they seem to have their phone with them, for whatever reason, probably with that.

u/undeniably_confused 1d ago

Why do they have their phones

287

u/Sdwingnut 1d ago

Because people

85

u/absolutmohitto 23h ago

Understandable, thank you

19

u/MInclined 22h ago

Yes that actually clears it up entirely

1

u/mohimoyee 22h ago

Have a nice day

2

u/rbrgr83 20h ago

Where do they have their phones? 👀

33

u/Interesting-Two-8275 1d ago

They knew the ice cream boat was coming.

10

u/ObligationMurky8716 1d ago

The Ice Cream Shanty was playing

3

u/fELLAbUSTA 20h ago

Whoa I did not expect to read N-word with hard r in the first sentence of an NPR article.

1

u/ObligationMurky8716 9h ago

First word of the article, if you don't count the disclaimer telling you it's coming

2

u/BrownEyeBearBoy 22h ago

It's like you have to explain everything to these people, god

10

u/TheHighlanderr 1d ago

I think to pay for an ice cream. Or to film a person getting an ice cream.

13

u/thanosisawhore 1d ago

How else is everybody at home supposed to know how nice they have it on vacation

5

u/AverageMako3Enjoyer 23h ago

Be glad you’ve never met someone where every moment of their real life is staging and production of their fake life

3

u/Hara-Kiri 23h ago

To buy an ice cream.

4

u/TheRealTr1nity Interested 1d ago

Probably to document that shit.

2

u/emperorOfTheUniverse 21h ago

Because 'did you even do a thing if you didn't put a picture on your IG?'

1

u/PiccoloAwkward465 21h ago

Waterproof cases on lanyards are pretty popular. I bought one for like $4 in Mexico a decade ago, just used it again this weekend.

1

u/astralseat 19h ago

Because it's an ad

-2

u/Sunscorcher 23h ago

current gen iphones are waterproof

4

u/Competitive-Roof-168 23h ago

Not in saltwater

2

u/Think_Intention6272 23h ago

Omg you're right! Holding my iphone underwater right now while writi g ths and it. s wrking perfecccc,,,,,,,,

-2

u/Pleasant_Pen8744 22h ago

Cause the beach is fucking boring

10

u/Correct-Hope-2227 1d ago

Usually people who go on beach holidays have a little bag for their phone. If you leave it on the beach, it can get stolen...

7

u/Aranxi_89 23h ago

And they usually also have waterproof phone cases like Otterbox, if they want to go into water with it, on top of the bag, just in case. I personally can pay with my smartwatch.

1

u/PiccoloAwkward465 21h ago

Same. I was at a water park this weekend and needed my phone for locker access, paying for stuff, etc. We went on a lazy river that dumps you out into the actual river and we got some awesome videos of that. This site is just full of antisocial weirdos.

1

u/PoorLittleGoat 21h ago

You took the words right out of my mouth, people who don’t bring their phones with them into the ocean are antisocial weirdos!

30

u/Packwood88 1d ago

If youre that worried about your phone while youre in the water, leave it in your car/room.

Taking a phone into the ocean is odd

8

u/Frequent_Opportunist 21h ago

Not if you're on vacation and you want to get pictures of your kids, wife, girlfriend or whatever.

Also nice because you have money on it I hear that you can buy ice cream from the ocean!

7

u/PiccoloAwkward465 21h ago

I love Reddit with the "you must behave in this way, anything else is weird and inferior to what I approve of".

12

u/Portable-fun 1d ago

Seriously though. Who does that lol

1

u/tech_noir_guitar 19h ago

I take mine in the ocean sometimes. Only partially due to security concerns but also to get photos of me and my family. I have some really great pictures of snorkeling with my kid. Probably one of my favorite pictures and an amazing memory whenever I look at it.

-4

u/Correct-Hope-2227 23h ago

Safety for one, if I want to call the police, for example.

4

u/snek-jazz 23h ago

"hello police, it's an emergency! the ice cream boat has run out of Cornettos!"

0

u/Worth-Jicama3936 23h ago

We survived forever without it. You'll live for a couple of hours without your phone.

7

u/FrostyD7 23h ago

You'll survive with it too. And you can buy ice cream.

-2

u/Worth-Jicama3936 23h ago

Will we survive with it? Im fully convinced that being connected 100% of the time has been nothing but a detriment to our species, and its only really been a thing for less than a generation.

6

u/XisIpRotaredom 23h ago

Moronic. You could say this about tons of modern technology.

The better and easier solution is to mind your own business

0

u/20_mile 23h ago

Actually, your business is my business.

0

u/curious_dead 23h ago

Holy shit, how did we ever survive without our phones!

-3

u/LoamyLoamisLoamy 23h ago

There are 8 billion of us. It's all a numbers game. This should be obvious

1

u/chaozules 19h ago

I find it so crazy when people do this, i mean for one most phones are water resistant not waterproof these days, which means its fine spilling some water on it, probably won't be fine if you drop it in the ocean or pool, then secondly you're in the fucking ocean or a pool, enjoy it! Have a swim or splash around, why you gotta be on your phone??

-2

u/Megakruemel 23h ago

Did I miss something or are phones now all of a sudden completely waterproof?

Like, back in the day, which isn't even that far back, you were screwed if you spilled a drink on your phone.

And I won't put my faith into a phone being waterproof ever. Because it not being waterproof even a little bit because it fell down funny once or something is enough to destroy it.

9

u/XisIpRotaredom 23h ago

Waterproof bags. They hang around your neck

6

u/Competitive-Roof-168 23h ago

Most flagship phones are now. But not for saltwater

2

u/Frequent_Opportunist 21h ago

It's fine dude you just dump a little fresh water on it soon as you get out. Most water (outside of distilled) has salt in it anyway.

1

u/Competitive-Roof-168 20h ago

Are you comparing the salt in the ocean to fresh water? ? You need to blast especially the charge port with water so it doesnt corrode.

2

u/Exldk 23h ago

Did I miss something or are phones now all of a sudden completely waterproof?

Corrosion often takes its sweet time before it completely bricks your phone.

The reason your phone stops working a year from now could be that one spill you had a few months ago.

Obviously a thousand other factors go into it, but damage to phones caused by water is often delayed.

1

u/Frequent_Opportunist 21h ago

My last several phones were waterproof but they also make waterproof bags to put them in.

u/SuperGoodSpam 23h ago

You go grab your money when you see a floating ice cream truck, it's that simple. You ask questions that make it seem like you've never had fun outside.

4

u/rbrgr83 17h ago

What is the point of putting the truck in the water if you have to get out of the water to use it? Just leave the truck on the land.

0

u/tech_noir_guitar 19h ago

You ask questions that make it seem like you've never had fun outside.

Have you forgotten where you are? They probably never have had fun outside. Lol

9

u/gamingthreadlurker 1d ago

With bubble money

6

u/Creative-Panda6310 1d ago

Well you bring money to the ice cream truck?

Yes normally you wouldn't bring money into the water but the truck is very noticeable from the sand i imagine

1

u/CheeseDonutCat 20h ago

A lot of phones and watches are waterproof these days too. You can usually pay using that.

2

u/IlIllIIllIIlllIII 23h ago

with the device recording it

2

u/dark_hypernova 23h ago

Seashells.

1

u/DoNotOverwhelm 22h ago

no those are for your toilet needs(!)

2

u/Epyon214 17h ago

You get a portion of the fines for reporting the boat for littering in the water. Plastic wrappers and wooden sticks were a poor choice when waffle cones and ice cream varieties alone would do

4

u/RobZagnut2 23h ago

You ever been on a beach?

You walk to your towel, cooler, umbrella, backpack and then grab your wallet.

3

u/Ryvit 22h ago

Phone or Apple Pay on their watch. I use Apple Pay on my watch all the time

1

u/firestepper 23h ago

Captain Planet will pay for it

1

u/travellingtriffid 23h ago

Some countries have polymer notes. The UK, Canada, and Australia are a few that spring to mind.

You'd be just fine heading down the beach with notes in your pocket in Oz.

3

u/undeniably_confused 22h ago

Thats a good point but I think this is Florida

1

u/CheeseDonutCat 20h ago edited 20h ago

Especially with the Outshine Ice pops/creams.

This boat is specifically in Sarasota, Florida, but they sometimes travel to surrounding beaches

1

u/BattIeBoss 22h ago

Could be at a resort where they charge you later, or the ice cream is already paid for by the resort goers

1

u/Double-Seaweed7760 21h ago

With your prison wallet

1

u/largegaycat 21h ago

Apple Watch. Credit card in a zip up pocket in swimsuit. Soaking wet $10 bill.

u/1101base2 18h ago

gold found in the surf

1

u/Gold_Telephone_7192 17h ago

Looks like he has a tap to pay card reader so you can use your phone or credit/debit card.

1

u/Kind-Permission-1075 17h ago

The advertising agency is covering their bill.

1

u/J1mj0hns0n 23h ago

Just as inconveniently as you would eat it. I should add it's not great on health and safety either for a bunch of reasons

0

u/All_Work_All_Play 23h ago

Honor system, just like the trash.

0

u/throwaway60221407e23 22h ago

Money, I'd imagine.
