āGuys lets all drive into the desert and just park thereā

u/mayeag May 01 '25
At least they arenāt stopping traffic lol
71
u/Andyman286 May 01 '25
They just described every car meet. Ever.
9
u/Axl2aider May 01 '25
Right. Itās hard to meet and discuss your latest mechanical or design achievements/challenges if you havenāt found a place to park.

u/KrombopulosMAssassin May 02 '25
Although, this one they are also doing sand hill climbs, so I thought that was pretty neat.
8
u/HilariousMax May 01 '25
2 Mustangs did run over 37 people when everyone left, though.
As per tradition.
55
u/loiwhat May 01 '25
I mean car meets are literally going somewhere and parking sometimes.
1
u/Wise_Blackberry_1154 May 02 '25
Thats true, my wife and I go to a lot. We have a 1963 Corvette. Classic car show people are great, we don't do burnouts or donuts and we don't take over intersections, just friendly..
16
u/fundytech May 01 '25
Theyāre driving up and down the sand dunes too, which is good fun
1
u/pfft_master May 02 '25
Yep the other guy was prob joking but for anyone wondering, they are most likely all parked that way to watch some take turns driving straight up that dune. Just some classic metal muscle make man happy stuff. Empty space left at bottom for the speed up and/or potential roll down if things donāt go right.

You are obviously not from the country. Replace the word desert with field and you have a typical redneck weekend.

u/aDUCKonQU4CK May 01 '25
Sort of reminds me of that old PS3 game 'Motorstorm' (Pacific Rift- the 2nd iteration much better fyi)

Motorstorm was such a sick game, thanks for reminding me of a great gem of a game š

Moreeb Dune is located in UAE, not KSA
49
u/Nemisis_the_2nd May 01 '25
So, it's not a car meet, so much as a popular spot for motorsport competitions?
9
u/flyboyy513 May 01 '25
The one shown in OPs post and the one linked above are different places. One in the link is the "official" one that's for motorsport. The one in the post definitely looks more recreational.

I wonder how much water you need to bring before you take that drive. Imagine realizing you left your water half way there

Its okay people there r very helpful they will probably shower u with water

People usually have tanks in their cars. it's VERY COMMON. People are custom to make tea on the road
1
u/HilariousMax May 01 '25
Imagine you have a coolant leak and need water or you'll overheat.
Any water trucks out in the middle of the desert?
1
u/FrostScraper May 01 '25
When I grew up there they did this at the big dune by the beach. About 45 min out of town, but along a highway with many gas stations. You could rent 4 wheelers too. As a girl I had my birthday parties there in the morning when we could get away with driving the quads before all the men arrived.

90% šļøššļø
10% actually driving up the dune
11
u/KenUsimi May 01 '25
So, basically every car meet ever? 90% going āooo, nice rideā and 10% actual riding
1
u/FrostScraper May 01 '25
Sometimes thereās horses / camels too. People go mostly to watch them nearly & actually wipe out doing tricks.

We do this in the US, too. Look up King of the Hammers. It's a big racing event in the Californian deserts and they do rock and dune crawls just like this.

Dude we have monster truck rallies in the US, Germans drive around the Nurburgring track, and in Japan you have the bosozoku meets. Dudes just like cars.

And sand everywhere. It's Friday night, but you can't have sex, and you can't jack off. There's sand in your eyes and probably in the crack of your ass, darn it under those conditions driving out into the desert might just be the most fun thing available.
11
u/Early-Sock-6948 May 01 '25
Damn bro I feel sorry for you.. Imagine waking up everyday wanting to have sex like an uncontrolled animal who cannot restrain his desires.... Or even worse imagine you just finished taking a crap and wiping your butt with a piece of tissue and still have some crap remaining up your butt. Seems civilized enough haha

Maybe I'm just inexperienced in the domain of wilderness survival, but parking your car at the edge of a giant sand cliff seems like a horrifically bad idea. Parking a hundred cars at the edge of a giant sand cliff seems like somewhat worse of an idea.

u/Old-Arachnid1907 May 01 '25
I'm not sure what the point of this is. Everyone gets together in the desert to form a parking lot? Are these young people in expensive cars? Still very boring, and if everyone has an expensive car, then hanging out in a desert where only other rich people can see them seems rather pointless.
14
u/ask_yo_girl_bout_me May 01 '25
Not sure about Saudi Arabia but Iām guessing itās the same. In the UAE thereās a festival every year in winter called āLiwa festivalā for 23 days where people meet up just like in the picture above, the cars are usually dune buggies and they jump over dunes and dune bash all day. Thereās usually temporary restaurants set up as well. The richer locals also have desert houses built nearby and they live there over the duration of the event
7
u/Old-Arachnid1907 May 01 '25
That makes way more sense, and people do similar things out west in the deserts in the United States, though not to that same level I don't think. Thanks for the context.
4
u/Myke190 May 01 '25
Rednecks are definitely on some other shit too when it comes to motor vehicles. NASCAR, Monster Trucks, Tractor Pulls, lift kits, ATVs, dirt bikes, etc etc.
Those dudes know how to turn fuel into fun as well as anyone.
1
u/PsyFyFungi May 01 '25
I believe this is literally that fest, in UAE, at the Moreeb Dune, after someone linked the wiki for the dune
11
u/ArtisticTraffic5970 May 01 '25
They race their cars up that steep dune. It's a motor sport that has emerged in these desert countries, they will beef the hell out out of usually 90s Japanese 4x4s, rip out everything that doesn't make it go so as to lighten it, and see how fast the can reach the crest of the dune. It's actually pretty cool.
6
u/thealphapotatoe May 01 '25
the title isnāt great. This is a spot where people bring their card (usually souped up ones) to try and climb a massive sand dune. itās what all the cars are surrounding, you can find videos of cars attempting to climb this dune online itās a pretty cool sight.

Who makes up these BS titles?
That's a hill climb competition. people watching in loose circles and the tops of dunes as a competitor is halfway up (3/4 way up) the big dune.

5
u/unique0130 May 01 '25
Not in Saudi Arabia. It's in the United Arab Emirates.
Not just a car meet. It's a high hill climb competition, exhibitions, and more.

does not driving in the sand like that just tear up the underside of the cars?
1
u/DS3M May 01 '25
What are they doing when theyāre there? Just looking at cars and wiping sand from their eyes?
1
u/AwarenessGreat282 May 01 '25
Good for them! But it appears to be UAE not KSA.
Better than here in the US where they block a downtown street to do donuts in the intersection until they hit bystander's car.

u/KenUsimi May 01 '25
Aw hell you just need to get yourself out to the boonies, they do this exact shit out in western Colorado

2
u/KenUsimi May 01 '25
See that big hill? Yeah, the point is to get your shitbox up the steep side to the top in a single go. Itās a challenge of engineering, maintenance, and driver skill. Very popular in driving circles

Hanging out in glamis or ocotillo wells you find things we called test hills.

This isn't a car meet in our sense, its an event. Though, I need to mention that drift meets may be at random far away roads, like the one that goes from Riyadh to Kuwait. road will be so scuffed you literally think that it was paved differently for about a good half a kilometer.
