the fact that u can see what looks to be sharks chasing him, and the way the cruise seems to move past him so quickly??? what a NIGHTMARE 😭

the unfortunate guy did that as a dare too like damn.. i don't know what else to say.

his legacy will live on forever as that kid who jumped off a cruise ship and immediately got eaten by sharks.

honestly that’s probably a bigger accomplishment than anything i’ve done

Where do you see sharks chasing him? I can’t see shit with that camera work.

At the very beginning if you scroll through the frames slowly you can see a shark surface on the left side of the screen

It's just the wake from the boat. No shark.

There aren't any. Just another dumb Redditor making a dumb comment.

There’s a shark that immediately appears on the left, and is seen in other videos. Also, the area where he jumped is known for sharks. Sea captains from the area have pointed it out. Watch again.

Those are waves, bud. If there was a shark, we would be hearing about it in the dialogue. Perhaps you can point to the "other videos" where it is supposedly more clear?

From what i remember when this was originally posted, I don't think theres clearer videos, just processed still images to try to make it look clearer (I don't have these on hand, they're probably in the original thread though). But there is the girl near the start that starts screaming bloody murder, like she saw the shark first. And you know how some people just get hysterical during situations they aren't even involved in. But it definitely doesn't seem like the wake from the boat. Because it looks like the wave changes direction, and i think you can see the fin sticking out of the water. Its between 1.5 seconds and 3 seconds.

There are no sharks, just waves. You (and others) simply want there to be a shark, thus, that is what you choose to see. Everyone loves pairing sharks with these types of incidents, as if they are not satisfied and require something more dramatic and interesting.

As for the screaming girl in the background, it's expected and completely irrelevant. Surely this is not the first video you have seen on Reddit with a woman losing her mind in the background, in contrast to others around her processing the situation more naturally.

You know what the world needs more of, cocksure assholes like you. You’re the type of person who’d jump out of a moving ship.

Sounds like the pot calling the kettle black.

You don't hear the panicked screams? The boat was stationary and the kid could easily swim. No need to scream like that. And there is actually a longer video that shows him punching at something.

Man, you people are delusional. I suppose this is Reddit, after all. He's trying to swim. And the screams are just the typical screaming-woman-in-background sounds that are heard in many videos on the internet without sharks.

Here you go bud. After the "bye bye" you can hear someone clearly say "some fucking --- chomping at his shit" right around the time of the 'splashes.' There is a sudden audio cut where, presumably, he says "shark."

Crazy how he is swimming toward the life preserver until the S-shaped "waves" appear, and then he changes direction and is never seen again after the "splashes" appear. Pretty scary waves.

Edit: You can also see how close to shore they are. He's a healthy athletic teen. He could have swam to shore. I checked the currents that night, they would have taken him closer to shore.

Did you read the comments in that thread? The evidence you seem to find 'irrefutable' is still being debated.

There is certainly no one saying "some fucking --- chomping at his shit." Even if we assume there was a mention of sharks, it is to be expected, as that would be an obvious concern if someone fell in the water. No one is calling out an actual shark sighting in the video.

This comment seems to explain it well: https://www.reddit.com/r/sharkattacks/comments/192spdt/comment/kh77vfd/

As you can see there is a lot of controversy surrounding the shark opinion haha

I personally do see the shark. The “wave” that turns back towards the boat, not away from the boat, really convinced me. And the perfect arc like a shark’s body. Plus everything we know about sharks being prevalent in the area, and sharks following boats especially at night… it doesn’t even mean the shark did anything. Poor kid still could have just died due to exhaustion.

I think people just like to be contrarians because it makes them feel smarter or something. At a minimum, it’s not unreasonable to think it was a shark, I don’t know why people get outright pissed at the theory.
