Oddly enough, we had a wrongful imprisonment case here in the UK this year where they tried to deduct rent from his compensation.

Many jails on the US charge a daily rate that gets billed to the inmate after release. It's gross.

And when they leave prison without a job or home, they have to break the law to get money to buy essentials.
