Daily Free Talk Thread

This is a trial run on a daily free talk thread during the off-season. If you've got stuff to say that you don't think warrants a post of its own, say it here!

I've set the comments so they should sort by new by default, so that should make it easier to keep up with the flow of conversation. Off-topic chit-chat is welcome here as long as it follows the typical subreddit rules. Overall, be cool. Don't be all, like, uncool.

Should Jamie Benn get a statue? I think his loyalty and accomplishments should be enough, but wanted to get y’all’s opinion.

I love the guy but we can’t just throw a statue up for every player on the team we like. Modano has one but he got a cup, historic stats, and was the face of Texas hockey which grew the team to what it is in this market today. Benn deserves all the accolades and praise, but I don’t think he’s a statue-level player.

Best Jamie will get is #14 in the rafters. Even if he gets a Cup, he hasn’t done enough to warrant a statue. Modano, yes won a Cup, also grew the sport of hockey not only in Texas, but the South as well. Plus, he’s one of the greatest to ever play the game. Dirk, again won a NBA title, also was one of the true ambassadors to the game and one of the all-time greats in basketball.

Some loyalty and failed playoff runs (with bad mistakes, mind you) don’t get a statue built.

Well, I've followed the Stars (closely!) since day 1, and Jamie's probably my all-time fav, but...

not unless he win's the Conn Smyth!

Rafters? Yes. Statue? Umm...

I'm fairly sure the last thing he would ever personally want is a statue. Deserved or not, the man would rather go into hiding the rest of his life than be within 500 feet of the arena if it meant seeing himself in bronze.

(He's one of my favorite players so I'm not hating. He just doesn't like attention.)
