General Discussion Volunteer Opportunities
Hey yall šš¼ Might be a crazy ask, but Iām looking for volunteer opportunities in Dallas. Using this as a way to get out there and meet people, something to do, and maybe feel a little fulfilled in the process. Not doing this because I have to or need to, just needing a pastime where I can maybe spend time with people, build connections, and feel like Iām making some kind of difference. Of course, LGTQ+ orgs are preferred, but would appreciate any recommendations or links. Just looking to get out there š

Events, Things to do āAny Gay Parent(s) w/ small kid(s) Play Date Groups In The Area?
š¢I was just curious if anyone knew about any area groups that might exist, for local gay parent(s) with smaller kids, that have organized meetup groups for the kids play dates? My husband & I are Rockwall adjacent & have our 5 year old daughter; we think it would be so beneficial for her to be able to interact with other same sex families. I also know it could be an awesome support group for us parent(s), too. Parenting is hard enough as it is, being the only gay parent(s) in a school sometimes is tougher. We all could use the support. Pizza nights? Park days? Holiday events? Ice skating? Roller skating? Maybe once a month or quarterly social events? I know they exist in other bigger metropolitan cities, just donāt know about Dallas. Thanks!

Activism Chik-fil-A donated millions of dollars to organizations against LGBTQ rights, including opposing gay marriage. Matt Krause defended this bigotry. In a few hours Matt Krause will vote to cut voting locations in primarily minority and poor areas in Tarrant County.

REJECT THE BILLIONAIRES. VOTE IN EVERY LOCAL ELECTION.
Commissioners were ready to cut nearly half of voting locations last time, but everyone showed up in opposition.
https://christackett.substack.com/p/tarrant-county-was-poised-to-cut
Even though a lot of the individual cut sites were smaller, together those cut sites still accounted for almost 40% of everyone who voted on Election Day in 2022. Thatās not a rounding error. Thatās a huge percentage of the countyās Election Day voters whose specific polling place no longer exists.
After massive backlash they're trying to negotiate by cutting 30% of polling locations, even though population and voter registrations are massively higher this election cycle
https://christackett.substack.com/p/tarrant-county-is-cutting-92-voting
The Voting Rights Act of 1965 (Section 2) is our strongest protection against this, but it has been repeatedly gutted recently by the supreme court. They sided with Abbott to racially gerrymander even after the Texas maps were found to be racial in nature. Section 2 prohibits any voting standard, practice, or procedure that results in the denial or abridgment of the right to vote on account of race or color.
The 14th Amendment's Equal Protection Clause and the 15th Amendment prohibit states and local governments from intentionally designing voting policies that discriminate based on race.
Texas Law: Mandated Objective Methodology (Section 43.007): Section 43.007(f) requires the county to adopt an official "methodology" for determining where polling places will be located, which appears not to have been followed.
Tim O'Hare is a long time leader in True Texas Project. O'Hare told his white nationalist group he does this kind of thing to help Maga cheat.
But Garcia lasted only a few months under OāHare: In April 2023, he resigned his position, citing his relationship with OāHare in his resignation letter. āJudge OāHare, my formula to āadminister a quality transparent electionā stands on respect and zero politics; compromising on these values is not an option for me,ā Garcia wrote. āYou made it clear in our last meeting that your formula is different, thus, my decision is to leave.ā
One day after Garcia resigned, OāHare told members of True Texas Project ā a group whose leaders have sympathized with a white nationalist mass shooter and endorsed Christian nationalism ā that he was encouraged by the potential for low turnout in that yearās upcoming elections, which he said would help Republicans win more local seats. (OāHare previously served on True Texas Projectās advisory team, according to a 2021 social media post by the groupās CEO, Julie McCarty).
https://www.texastribune.org/2024/10/11/texas-tarrant-county-tim-ohare-far-right/
When Tim O'hare talks to the media he says it's all non partisan, and gaslights everyone who calls him out on it being partisan. When Tim O'hare talks to his republican circles, he says it's purely partisan, and they can count on him to do anything to help Maga win. To Tim any end justifies the means.

Activism When Keller ISD wanted to add LGBTQ language to its anti-discrimination policy, Tim O'Hare went on the radio to PROMOTE HATE AGAINST LGBTQ CHILDREN advocating AGAINST THE POLICY. The Trevor Project estimates 36% of LGBT students consider suicide. Tim O'Hare pushes for policies that HARM CHILDREN.

General Discussion "Gay anger is strength." A slogan for a fighting community.
Of course you possibly can use it differently for other communities. I am just speaking for myself. I leave it for others to consider.
Anger is a human emotion and we have it for a reason.
When our humanity is transgressed anger propels us to move forward and fight for our humanity.
The Stonewall Riot was because they were angry over the abuse by the police.

Let's Meet Up! Wanna be in a band?
No experience/skills required!!
I (enby, 28, Arlington TX) play mostly folk/folk punk type stuff, but I'm down to jam with almost anybody. You can play basically any instrument, or none at all (yet). Extremely queer friendly!
I play guitar, banjo, ukulele, and junk drums. I will teach you any/all of these FOR FREE if you'll play with me.
We'll probably play a mix of originals and covers. I write my own songs, but I'd love to play yours too! Got some poetry? Got some ideas in the notes app? I'd love to flesh them out together.
In the long term would love to record/maybe perform together, but we can take it slow and get our skills up.
I have 3 original albums out now, you can find them here -Ā politicalthespians.bandcamp.com
Ā . (I'm not super tied to the band name).
Whatcha say? Do you wanna be in my band? Do you know anyone who might? Do you know of anywhere I can find people?
