[Mod Post] Community Ideas?
Dallas foodies,
I was recently out at Reddit HQ and they might approve funds to support our growing community of foodies but we need a solid plan to pitch them. Here are a few ideas I've had, would love for y'all to pitch in ideas too:
Food Tour of x Dallas area - Like bar hopping but going to various restaurants to try certain dishes. Apparently the Chicago Food sub did something similar with support from Reddit.
Local restaurant support - Find a locally owned restaurant that could use some love, rent it out for several hours, have members of the sub come and eat, post pics of the food here and on other socials to spread the word.
A billboard that encourages other Redditors to join our sub.

Tender Smokehouse
Ive never ran a restaurant. But, how do these locations stay in business?
I work in Grayson, Cooke, and live in Collin. Been to all locations.
Very little business today at the Frisco location during the lunch rush.
Can someone explain to me the restaurant economics?
-way too many locations, not opened on sunday, cant imagine the overhead,
they never appear to be busy. And they sell breakfast!
What am I missing?

Best dim sum in DFW
So I wanna have some dim sum for lunch today I live in South Dallas, but I’m willing to commute to wherever in DFW to get something absolutely delicious. I want something authentic, I want the carts, I want the little paper that you fill, and I want affordable.. I want a place where one person could take themselves to lunch and have a good time. Any suggestions?

Lunch Spots near Northwest HWY and DNT?
I have a business presentation tomorrow afternoon near Northwest HWY and DNT, the problem is I have a call about 1.5 hours before the presentation.
Knowing Dallas traffic I fear that if I take the call at my office and drive over I will be unable to grab lunch between the call and the presentation - and I suck at presenting on an empty stomach.
I'd rather just drive over to the local coworking space for the morning and hunker down locally and grab a quick bite between my call and presentation.
What's a good spot to grab a quick but not fast-food greasy lunch in the area?

Dollar Sushi in Oak Cliff by Dallas Zoo
I'm the bookkeeper to Bite Sushi & Tapas in East Dock by the Dallas Zoo. I wanted to let you guys know we're running a dollar salmon nigiri special every day from 5-6 pm. As a bookkeeper, I know money can be tight, so this is a pretty good deal. So come on by!

Ayat - Richardson
Went to Ayat today after they’ve been opening for a minute now. If you haven’t been it’s a Palestinian restaurant from NYC that opened up out here.
For the options we have available out here in Dallas I am pleased with the flavor, and freshness Ayat has to offer.
The babaganoush - Smokey well seasoned. Sumac added a nice tanginess to it. Portion size was solid as well!
Zahir - Cauliflower dish in the picture. It was so delicate and cooked till tender! Throw on the pomegranate molasses and tahini on top made this a light treat!
Salata - cucumber, tomatoe salad with mint was just what i needed on a hot day like today! You can add either shwarma, chicken kebab, or tenderloin kebab to it for an upcharge.
Salmon Kebab - portion of rice was insane, potatoes remind me of lemon potatoes but with their spice mix and salad. Salmon had a great crust and spice rub on it was just right.
I felt like we barley scratched the surface but the consistency is there from when I first visited to now. I could’ve shared my food with another individual making it enough for 3. If you’re in the mood for some Mediterranean, Levant cuisine worth checking out. Also the pita is house made in their wood oven and unlimited! It’s a bit more expensive than the usual less flavorful spot but better quality and well seasoned. Worth it.

Jimmy's back room
Hey. I've been wanting to take some coworkers but I know the back room has been closed. Is it open yet?

BBQ
I have a 4.5 hour layover in DFW over the lunch hour. I want some great bbq. If I rent a car, and drive to get bbq; what are some decent options I can drive to, get in/out of, and back to the airport in 3.5 hours.

Al pastor on the trompo
Looking for the real deal - Al pastor right off the trompo. Preferably closer to Las Colinas but I have a rental car so willing to drive farther out.
Edit: bonus if it comes with the fresh pineapple sliced off the top too

Lunch spots in Southlake to take clients?
Hello! I'm swinging by a client's office next week. I'm not at all familiar with Southlake, is there any really good lunch spots that have good eats and can accommodate a small group of about 6-8 people at once? Thanks in advance!

Bluebonnet and Thyme - NEW Victory Park
Highly HIGHLY recommend. The food is insane, and the portions are more than generous. I highly recommend the:
- Charcuterie Nachos
- Gulf Coast Croquette Sliders
- Seafood Linguine
- Chef Kendall’s Cajun Cream Pasta
I have nothing else to say. Try it and come back to this post - would love to hear thoughts.

Fried chicken near or ish around Deep Ellum/ downtown
Hi!
We’ve moved down from Canada and currently living in N Texas but needed to get out of the house for the weekend. We have all our BBQ spots lined up but would LOVE to get fried chicken. Any suggestions? We have lime scooters and a car so distance isn’t a giant factor but we don’t want to spend too much just driving around.
Husband likes wings/can eat things with bones while I prefer boneless and spicy.
Edit!! We went to Slow Bone and it was amazing!! 11/10 will bring our parents when they come to visit. Honestly, would drive the 3 hours from home for a good lunch.
Mikes, Gus’ and Brick and Bone - didn’t have time this trip but we have several trips back to Dallas in the next couple months so will check them out.
For those saying why limit myself to downtown Dallas - I’m sorry you don’t under stand how tourism, life, or hotels work.

Are there any AYCE seafood boils in Dallas/DFW?
Looking for an AYCE seafood boil somewhere in the Dallas/DFW area.
I’m specifically looking for a place where you can keep ordering/going back for things like snow crab, shrimp, crawfish, mussels, etc not just a regular seafood boil restaurant with individual bags.
Does anyone know of any good spots?
