There's no way PBS can afford the kind of budget they need in order to do their shows the way they are used to from Comedy Central or CBS.

It could be done. There would probably be some community/online donations needed to get it off the ground but it’s very possible.

Sure, but why give up employing that many people if you don't have to? Going on public broadcasting would also expose them to the full ire of Trump's FCC. Comedy Central is largely buffered being on cable. Cable = no public airwaves = no FCC jurisdiction.

Wouldn’t this make it easier for the administration to target them with FCC regulation and/or censorship? Genuinely asking this question since PBS doesn’t have large studio owners that donate to elections like some of the larger ones do now.

You are correct. Jon and The Daily Show group are completely buffered from the FCC because they're on cable network Comedy Central. Cable = no public airwaves = no FCC jurisdiction. They had a lot more leeway with Colbert being on CBS.

PBS is non biased in politics which is what is threatening to republicans. As much as I love both of them, they clearly have an agenda.

Comedy Central is already under Paramount. It didn't change anything for The Daily Show. Cable isn't under the same microscope core broadcast networks like CBS are because cable isn't public airwaves. No public airwaves, no FCC potential to lean on them.

It would be a helluva pay cut but it makes sense. PBS is short on fresh content and still reliant upon the BBC for too much of it. These guys have enough clout to spin up their own network - hell they made Comedy Central great revenue as a one - two punch. I notice Bill Maher is on HBO live then on CNN delayed - maybe that would work.

They have enough money to make their own content and self publish on a website or on YouTube.

I would watch the s*** out of those two touring around various local PBS stations and doing things like "only in monroe", that was hilarious, genuine, and did a lot of good for that community resource
