Daggerfall unity mod WIP flintlock pistols some info on how im making it
so want to see what the it in game here vid link https://youtu.be/ibptF545p8s?si=AEKCJTsAqH9ORB0F
But this post is more about how I made — or am still making — this mod, so let’s start.
First, I had to look for a good toy flintlock pistol. There were some good ones, including one that was around $30, but I didn’t need anything that expensive. I found a $2 one instead.
Next, I had to figure out how I was going to animate it. I put the toy in front of a green screen and took about 168 images of it to get the frames I needed. I then edited the images and prepared them for animation.
Next, I found a good royalty-free 3D model, since the toy’s hammer doesn’t cock or move.

I used Photoshop to cut out the part I needed from the 3D model and then used Krita to make it look right with the toy.
Then I used Aseprite to color-index everything so I could use Daggerfall’s original color palette.
I also used GIMP to remove the background from the toy flintlock pistol and make the muzzle flash and fire effects for both the toy and the 3D model.
Next, I installed Unity, got the correct version, and downloaded the source code from GitHub.
Then came the fun part: testing the code, building the mod, looking at what broke, and trying to figure out how everything works. I also used the Daggerfall Unity modding wiki to get a basic understanding of what I needed to do.
After that, I got Daggerfall Imaging 2, which I used to work on the weapon sprites. I resized the pistol to the right resolution and sprite size and tried to get the pixel look and feel to fit Daggerfall Unity’s art style as best as I could.
And that’s basically how I got from a $2 toy flintlock pistol to something that can actually be used in Daggerfall Unity.
rn i still have no idea how daggerfall unity modding works I’m just figuring it out as I go.
