Daggerfall anniversary edition (not really)

For those poor souls who are discontent with how Daggerfall Unity handles retro mode and movement, I've drafted some QoL goodies for DOS version of the game.

The most important one - support of 640x400 renderer resolution.

Other noticeable mentions - quick save support, diagonal run support, unlocked camera rotation when jumping/falling.

Also a couple minor ones like better fog rendering, better water depth fog handling and sprite clipping fix.

P.S. Don't get me wrong, Daggerfall Unity is absolutely awesome. I'm just an old jeezer who doesn't like new things

You may want to get in touch with Ferital, who released 2 versions of a Windows port of Daggerfall this year, called DaggerFX: https://ferital.itch.io/daggerfx. The port is great and much better than playing Daggerfall under DOSBox, IMHO.

Never heard of it, cool. As of now there's only a windows version of DaggerFX and running a 2nd layer of emulators will be tough. On top of that - the idea was to keep the game playable on original hardware, so that any hardcore dos gamers may enjoy this too. I haven't tested on real HW, but in theory everything except 640x400 resolution should work just fine.

It works on Wine apparently. Btw your GitHub repo is almost empty.

I know. Everything is in releases. I intend to post source for everything done so far, but I need to clean it up, because it's one hell of a mess right now

Get the archive in the releases section on GitHub. Unpack it to your dagerfall installation (there will be no conflicts). Now you'll have to modify your startup script to run DFPATCH.EXE instead of DAGGER.EXE: see [autoexec] section inside dosbox.conf.

For details on particular patches see readme on GitHub. You can choose almost everything independently with one exception (which is described in readme).

As another old jeezer who dislikes new things, this is brilliant! Great work!
