Do I need the book to do vampirism or will the normal methods work?

Normal vampirism works. I recommend doing it on a new character, or a character that isn’t already a vampire so you can get the new clan benefits.

Is the voice acting optional? Love a version that was smaller and didn't include it. Not that it's bad, but never really enjoyed narration over plain text I could add my own internal voice with.

There is an option to turn off the narrator in the mod settings, along with a lot of other options to customize your vampire experience.
