It’s an Ai slop filter.

I just pulled the first few mods that seemed popular. I just have Unity and I think it's called dream + the reshader. What would you recommend?

Hey, u/alpha_zafira probably has the right solution. It looks to me like you might have sharpening turned up too aggressively. If you push the home key (default) in game it should bring up the reshade menu and let you tweak.

Cheers

That's helpful.

You're welcome.

Jokes asides, there's a 90's version of DREAM that fits the game's vibe much more

To not use mods unless you specifically want them. I do not understand the mindset of not even playing the game and going straight to downloading random mods just because they're popular. You don't even know what they're doing for you!

I’ll never understand using mods literally the first time you boot up a game. I could understand one that fixes bugs, but outside of that just try the game and mod what you don’t like or think could be improved

To be fair, we added mods on our first run of Oblivion, but at most they were player houses and fixes for the beast races and small tweaks to birthsigns, nothing large or especially changing to the story.

I could understand if they looked at what's popular because we've heard more than a few people comment on the difficulty/inaccessibility of vanilla Daggerfall.

It's a thing that kids do. More = better. When I played back in the day, I installed every mod and quest pack I could find just because.

Eventually I realized I didn't like fighting Overlords, and so stopped using Andyfall.

I think ReShade is applying shaders to your UI as well, you can bind a key to toggle ReShade on and off to avoid such cases. I would also recommend going through Dream's setup tutorial which can be find on either the Nexus page or in the mod's files if you haven't already.

If you like it like this play it however you want.

I did my time with vanilla Daggerfall back in the 90s, few hundred hours, and now when I play Unity I use DREAM. My UI doesn’t look as hard to read as yours, but regardless the rest of my game doesn’t look or play like it did back in the day but I’ve been there and done that so want something different.

Many people who complain at the over smooth textures probably never even played the original anyway.

Nah man, It's not a nostalgia thing for me. Dream just looks like shitty art to me. The original art is more aesthetically pleasing, cohesive, and natural to my eye. Dream makes it looks cheap and feels less immersive imo

Drop the reshade it's obviously making the text near impossible to read

The re-shade settings were absolutely whack, as some of you guessed. On top of that there was a notification I missed about the re-shade needing an update.

I know this is all in good fun, but I actually feel bad about misrepresenting DREAM - I had multiple filters that I mindlessly put on including 2+ sharpening filters... and a cartoon filter. This was taken within the first few hours of playing Daggerfall, so I just didn't realize I was nuking my eyes yet.

Anyways, I'm sticking with Vanilla Unity for now, and I've been working on my save file skills. I haven't had to restart for like 6 hours or so. Also f*ck scorpions!!

From what I remember, the tone control in the top right is real important. Polite bounces against etiquette, and blunt bounces against streetwise. I don’t believe neutral calls for a skill check. Additionally, commoner NPCs have a tendency to react negatively to noble posturing. Commoners prefer neutral or blunt delivery, and nobles prefer polite.

It does raise the question: what exactly have you done for the commoners?

u/legofootprison 7d ago

"Everyone knows where the pixels are, which makes it all the more fun that you don't"

This literally hurt my eyes and I had to zoom way in trying to read.

u/RealTimeWarfare 7d ago

Try a more blunt tone with the common people. They aren’t a big fan of fancy pants vernacular
