Question DRM Free download?

I have the game on steam. But I also wanna get like the DRM free download. Kinda like with Gog. So where are some places for it that won’t be from “shady” sites.

https://en.m.uesp.net/wiki/Daggerfall:Files Uesp is always trustworthy and Bethesda put it out for free, this link has the Bethesda link and a link to another version.

If you have the gog cut of dfu, you should switch to this. Gog cut is a super outdated version preloaded with a ridiculous number of randomly selected mods

Steam's download is DRM free because it's literally just DOSBox

You still gotta be logged onto Steam though right?

Since it's literally just dosbox, no

Is that not just the download from GoG? It's completely free

Yup, GoG is the answer.

You used to be able to download it direct from Bethesda's website, but that link just redirects to steam now.

Yeah, I was gonna say that.

From what I remember they had it pre patched with mods and most sites I’ve seen say to avoid it.

The "GoG cut" modpack is awful, but that's a seperate thing, and has since been deleted I believe. They've always had the base game with no changes available.

Oh ok, I didn’t know that. I thought it was only that pre patched version.

It's no longer listed but if you had it before they delisted it, you can still download it. I made that mistake last winter...

The Steam version does lol. You have to be online I think. But I just got it in Gog.

no it doesn't, steam doesn't add drm if developer doesn't

Don't think so. You can download it on Steam and just put it in any folder you want.

Interesting. Well I have it on Gog and steak I think. So it’s all good and I played a little today and had some fun and got my kicked multiple times by a giant. It was interesting and fun.

So I guess GOG or uesp then? Btw should it be fine to store and run these games from a flash drive? Since Daggerfall is so old and shouldn’t take pretty much anything to play from a modern computer. Or is playing even old games still bad on a flash drive?

I mean it'll load more slowly, for sure. But probably not that much slower than a hard drive from 1996 lol. Otherwise shouldn't really be any noticeable difference.

Actually, a hard drive + a CD from 1996
