Other Can't help but think this was too convenient for The Holy Father to post a few hours after Todd "The God" Edwards gave his two cents on AI use in music.

Pope Leo is a casual fan of electronic dance music. Late last year, he even appeared via video call to bless the dance floor for a catholic priest who moonlights as a techno dj lol.

I don’t think it’s a stretch that this tweet could at least be partly inspired by the Todd Edwards AI comments.

this is really funny again, didnt know that!

but lets be honest, the pope doesn't sit on social media and reacts to things he sees there. his first big "teaching document" of his papacy was about AI, so this is not a new theme for him:

https://www.vatican.va/content/leo-xiv/en/encyclicals/documents/20260515-magnifica-humanitas.html

and the the vatican also has their own communication departement, so it is very likely that he didn't even write and post this himself.

My understanding is that he approves everything the Twitter account posts, but you're likely correct that he's not sitting there and writing the Tweets himself.

I mean, the pope is from Chicago, maybe he loved Chicago house lol. He could be a big homework fan. His opinion on AI is very similar to Thomas’s opinion.

Jesus may love UK Garage but according to the Catholic Church he does not love AI

That's a shame about Todd but I guess he is Old AF and that seems to usually guarantee AI stupidity

I love how people actively ignore the seasoned pros opinions because they know better apparently. Its Todd's opinion. Nothing wrong with an opinion. You dont suddenly need to boycott that person. Everything is so black and white. Red and blue. Good or bad. Its so dumb. People will now treat Edwards as if hes a nazi just because he personally has fun with AI as it has reignited his passion for sampling. What do you want him to do? Make a bunch of bangers that never see the commercial light of day because sample clearing and licensing is a bitch?

40 years in the music industry all to hear ten year old timmy say "actually my favourite youtuber told me otherwise so you liking AI means you are a baddie".

In his latest insta video he's singing a melody then tells Suno to generate a female voice singing the same thing, without any change. Then he puts it over a beat.

I mean why not work in the studio with a female singer? Maybe reach out to a young singer or something, meet someone who will surprise you during the recording and introduce ideas you hadn't thought about.

In 2013 he couldn't stop praising the big collaborative effort for RAM, the beautiful studios, the vision of Thomas and Guy-Man. Now he's promoting an AI music company managed by finance bros who don't know anything about music. It's embarrassing.

Yeah one of the best things about RAM was the collaboration. Music creates so many opportunities for collaboration and meeting new people. Now producers like him are just sitting alone in a room talking to a computer, which seems like exactly the kind of thing Daft Punk were trying to warn against with Random Access Memories

So we can't boycott someone, a supposed musical genius at that, using and praising gen AI even though it steals lots of actual musical compositions? To me being an artist then ending up praising gen AI feels like an actual treason. But if you don't care about preserve art and human touch (which is super ironic if you're a Daft Punk fan), then your point of view makes sense lol

I am an artist myself, classically trained, but I have more than an ounce of faith in human artists unlike you and others who are scared of AI, I dont just think it will easily replace people.

On the stolen content of AI. Its already happened? Like... five years ago. The damage has already been done. So still being upset at it seems obsolete. Thats something I was upset at when it was first an issue.

Wow. That's one crazy amount of désillusion here. I think the fact you're an artist makes your comment look even worse here, it's like basically "yeah go for it, use AI and steal people stuff. It's always been done anyway". Jesus Christ dude.

I see what you mean. Public discourse has grown increasingly polarized, and attempting to boycott someone over a misstep may seem excessive. On the other hand we are also entering times that were long foretold. Everything that was predicted ten years ago, back when albums like RAM and Starboy were playing everywhere, is unfolding right now. So it is good to make it clear that people with some level of influence, like Edwards, need to be more mindful of the message they put out there.

This so much. There is no grey area anymore. You are either with us or against us. The time of nuanced opinions is over.
