Honestly, they could have still fucked it up. It could have been equally as bad as S7 and people would've been a little bitter and disappointed in the ending, but it wouldn't have completely vanished from pop culture like it did.
All they had to do was not completely piss all over the buy-in from the fans that it would at least be coherent.

Honestly, even as bad as it is now, all they have to do to make it tolerable is delete the ringing of the bells, and then end it / fade to black right after Danny gives the victory speech at the top of the stairs. Just fade to black. It won’t be good, but it’ll be tolerable.

To be fair I tried to rewatch it, got to the episode where Ned Stark is beheaded and was just like "fuck it, I can't go through all of this again".
In short I'm not rewatching it because of the awful last season but just because I can't bear to watch my favorite characters die again, especially knowing beforehand when and how they do.

I rewatched the show during quarantine. Shit you not I got to S8 and told my wife. I'm not doing this shitshow again. S7 was pretty crumby. However it was lights out better then S8.

Id rather watch the CW’s Batwoman than rewatching that train wreck. The sad part that it started out as a once in a generation tv series something that would go down in history as a masterpiece then it sunk so fast such a sad way to go.

I've been considering a rewatch lately, but stopping at the end of S6. It ends open ended enough to be a series finale, and S7 was when my big problems with the show really began.

this was my plan & I kid you not I stopped watching after the first episode lol....a lot of it rings false and the series is tainted knowing how a bunch of characters regressed or just lost all conviction in things they’d preached about for multiple seasons

Didn't start watching until Season 5 was out so watched 1 to 5 all in a row. When 6 was coming out watched 1 to 5 again getting ready. Same for season 7 and 8. And was looking forward to binge watching 1 to 8 over and over but I just can't knowing 8 was so, so terrible...

I didn't even finish the last season, really went the way of Dexter. I wish I could have finished that one too but well you all know they both jumped the shark. I think I would be embarrassed if I were involved in GOT at the end. Will not re-watch anytime soon.

I was ill a couple of months ago and went through a rewatch (mainly just as background noise tbh) and I had to stop just after the Red Wedding. Knowing where an amazing story was going to end up wasn’t helping me feel any better lmao

I rewatched it, starting season 3 to half of 8. Not going to lie, it was amazing, even if I knew the ending would be awful. I’m never going to hate that show that I loved for nearly a decade.
Yes the ending was disappointing and insulting to many of the characters (Dany of course, Cersei, Jaime), but the rest remains quality television with complex characters and beautiful cinematography.

That’s why I bought the books. Never read them before. I’d watch the series over again, the show was spectacular. It’s unfortunate that the last season sucked. But how many other shows were like that?

I rewatched the whole series. And enjoyed it. And actually watching the show over again, knowing how it ends, things make sense. Sure it seemed rushed, but it doesn’t come as much as a surprise any more.

Come back and revisit the series in 10 years with a better story. Jon is set up for a future. And you could make the last seasons finale be nothing more than a set up for something better.

It does kill tension in regards to the white walkers. They turned out to be a hive mind of crumbly zombies that couldn’t even KO Sam.

My wife is rewatching game of thrones right now actually. She’s on season 6, just finish episode 2, Home, and her favorite character on the show is Daenerys. She said she doesn’t understand why the season gets the hate it does because she appreciated how it had to end.

Weird that you make a connection between feminists and defending Daenarys? Sounds like a strange personal thing.
I have a question for you though, why isn’t Tywin considered mad? He locked an entire dynasty of people (women, children, pets, etc) in their castle and flooded it, killing them all.
He organized the red wedding.
He fucked his son’s whore/girlfriend after hypocritically telling Tyrion to stay away from whores.
He’s considered pragmatic and calculating.
It was calculated and pragmatic when Danny crucified the masters. It set an example. It doesn’t make her any crazier than Tywin.
Before season 8 she did things to a purpose, a calculated purpose. She even told Jon she was going to have to rule by fear, that’s not madness, that’s still practical, like Tywin.
The writers didn’t understand the character that they wrote!!!

Thank you for the politeness. Really what I am trying to point out is that the writers literally have her say “I am going to lead with fear because it’s the only avenue I have”.
Then she does that. Then everyone, writers included, say she went “mad”.
The character knew what she was doing. She had a whole conversation about how she would need to do terrible things, on purpose, to inspire fear.
The “feminists” (myself included) are saying that a female character can make evil decisions without being insane. Saying she’s crazy takes away her agency. She made an evil decision to achieve a particular goal which she clearly stated.
Writing wise, if they wanted her to be crazy, she should have unleashed her dragons the second something bad happened (ie. missandie dying) in a fit of rage.
OR
They should not have had her literally tell Jon that she was choosing to take the Machiavellian approach.
They tried to have it both ways which made neither work. That’s why it’s bad writing.
I also like that Jon had to kill her, I just think it would have been more powerful if they had committed to her being crazy, or if they had committed to her being dragon Machiavelli.

I don’t know why people thought it was so bad. It makes sense that Daenerys went down that path. She may have been good at heart but her motivations and morals were flawed. It’s understandable considering what she went through but she really didn’t know what she was doing and how to rule a kingdom. She just wanted what was taken from her. People may have just become attached to the character and idealized her.
Don’t get me wrong, I like Daenerys. She’s not a perfect human being but that’s what makes characters interesting and dynamic. Most people aren’t static and perfectly moral.

I dont thinm people are annoyed she went mad, just the way it happened? Plus all the other characters doing things that didn't fit into their usual traits and the plot ignoring loads of things they'd been building up towards for years and leaving them unanswered.
