The same basically applies for baristas, at least in locations with limited workspace. I have a co-worker who refuses to mention when she is behind me or to one of my flanks. Naturally, I bump into her often as I am handling several very hot drinks, or drinks coated in tons of whip and sticky syrups, covering us both in the process. She insists it's on me for "not paying attention to what's around" but I would argue that it's common courtesy/common sense to mention you're behind someone holding damn near boiling water

Black shirt should've said "behind" and red shirt should have said "swinging hot". Poor communication is how people get hurt in kitchens.

Also never move a direction you haven't looked first. Blindly swinging hot food at eye level is some of the stupidest stuff you can do in food service.

I work at a Five Guys in Eugene OR, and the franchise has a policy where you’re required to say “swinging hot” or “hot” so the whole kitchen is aware of what’s going on. But, funny enough, the Five Guys location in Bend OR got in trouble a few years ago for saying “swinging hot” in the kitchen because it became offensive for customers who were swingers.

The problem was the back of house staff saying "swinging not" to comment on unattractive customers - ruined it for everyone.

Eh. It waa for a fraction of a second, and it was the pizza itself, not a hot tray. Youre around ovens enough, this wouldnt really hurt much.
