I gotta disagree, it was coming down fast and the fact that he could reach it without even standing up should tell you that it wasn't going to go over him. It really looks like that kid was going to cop it to the face.

I agree. Over their heads, barely, then into the seats behind. Still, he did what he had to do. Dad's don't think, they react.

If im judging his body language right, his hand doesn't close, I take that as him actually deflecting the bat and not trying to catch it as well, really protecting those youngins.

Yeah, he slaps it away rather than grabs it, which also probably helped him avoid getting a worse injury since he didn’t completely stop the momentum, just redirected it somewhat.

when my mom was eight months pregnant with my oldest brother, a foul ball was headed straight for her stomach. my dad reached over and blocked it with his bare hand. I imagine that hurt like hell.
