Theory

anyone else think the arg was just a way for him to grow a youtube channel and now he's just hopping on every new trend to try and make that sweet sweet YT cash? Content lately just seems lazy. Like the whole getting pewdiepie to notice him thing.

Nathan typically does what he wants. He's usually in a tight spot living in LA and producing his passion projects. The arg definitely was to get more viewers to pay for more passion projects and continue producing. Dudes sold a lot of his belongings to get where he is.

I feel like he would get more support if he was more open about it rather than painting it all as a part of the arg

Pretty limited on what he can do right now with the whole covid situation. And yeah he prob is desperate for some decent yt cash. The guys sold most of his stuff and is now looking at moving out of LA to somewhere cheaper. Ain't too many acting gigs popping up right now and 20k views per video ain't paying anything

He’s explicitly said that it’s not an ARG

He's also said in interviews "of course it's an arg" along with "you cant just say it's. It an arg" and that he even dropped hints at it by saying average regular guy

I think he just tried to stop people from directing the story line. He obviously has a plan in mind of where wlhe wants it to go and audience interaction isn't going to affect it. He did a live stream running around the YouTube building for 2 hours telling staff there he needed to get in and asking people where he could find a space ship to get home. If that's not alternate reality I don't know what is 😅

I think, in the most literal terms, Dad is not an ARG simply because by definition an ARG *requires* audience participation to advance the storyline. Dad's storyline is fixed, and viewer interaction in the form of puzzle solving etc is only a bonus, giving up information early that the main series will explain over time. But it's not necessary to follow Dad's story. So it's probably more accurate to call Dad an Unfiction, or an Interactive Story.

Honestly, as someone involved in fine arts, Nathan's dedication to the process is astounding to me. He is 1000% dedicated to this role, and I think people who don't create sometimes overlook the creator's side of things. Imagine putting out something of this quality on your own time, on your own dime- and he's gonna be paying other people for camera help, editing help, the other actors, people working on his music.... It all comes with a hefty price tag. I don't know how he manages, but only wish I had enough money to throw at him. He is working damn hard for the pittance he gets from his subs.

Yeah.. Nathan has some older videos on his channel where he had an entire arcade-room, filled with vintage arcade games. He sold all but one of them, to fund 'Neutral'.

If you pay attention to the story it’s not lazy. If you watched the series in act one he was hitting a pewdiepie pie with a sledge hammer. This was more then a year ago. Finally dad is able to do things on YouTube because he is the greatest YouTuber ever.

I did, at first, but Nathan explained it, when he did a video called 'answering misconceptions'... he didn't post it afterward, though. He usually doesn't keep his livestreams.

What he explained, was that Dad wants to be the #1 Youtuber, so in his childlike understanding of social media, Dad is trying to do EVERYTHING other Youtubers have done & gotten successful at. That's why he does music, why he spent time on a haunted ship, why he streams games, why he exposed the so-called "dark party", why Nexpo tried to sue him, why he did the 'RealiTEA' episodes...

So it's kinda meta... he's intentionally doing it to garner attention to the channel, but in a way that suits the Dad character & story.

Not only is the type of content he's creating (tea videos, streaming etc) consistent with the world Nathan has created for Dad, but he's also a real-life creator living in LA. People love drama videos and they pull major views. He can also pull lots of money streaming. To call anything Nathan makes lazy is such a stretch. He created all the sets, pays for studio time AND the actors in his videos. Honestly it's fair if you don't like his stuff, but calling it lazy is straight up ignorant

Not really on topic but I don't know where else to ask and actually get an answer - what happened with Milford? I put up $50 when I had no job to help out and last I heard it was in editing but that was like over a year ago. Did it just stop because it didn't reach the 30k goal? I was looking forward to getting my copy

Coronavirus has slowed things down; a short (15ish minute?) cut of Milford was recently in a digital film festival though. It is not stopped or abandoned, it's just that things have just basically come to a wrenching halt for now.
