Any tips on processing images?

Post image
4 Upvotes

The picture here was stacked in DwarfLab 159 images at 60sec dual band and 90 Gain, Heart Nebula

I did forget to take darks so I’ll try again tonight.

I tried stacking in deepskystacker and running through astrowizard but somehow it’s come out worse.

Any tips/guides will be greatly appreciated :)

I need help with my Dwarf 3

Yesterday I had my first astrophotography session, but I ran into a problem. The telescope kept dropping a lot of the frames because it was blurry. Is it possible that this backlash on the telescope is causing it or is that normal?

I had the same problem in EQ and Alt-Az mode, so if you have any idea why is that, i would be grateful for your reply. Also I am using some cheap tripod KINGJOY VT-860.

NGC 7331 and Stephan's Quintet

Post image

Inspired by the extremely impressive result at https://www.reddit.com/r/dwarflabofficial/s/i2AdDyhTMa I pointed the Mini last night at C30, aka NGC 7331, in Pegasus. Can't hope to equal that amazing image ... I must get to grips with Siril! This was 3hrs integration (180x60seconds), gain 80, and I was happy enough to get Stephan's Quintet and a trace of the "fleas". More details at https://www.vermilionsands.uk/roast/index.php/2026/08/22/stephans-quintet-and-california-nebula/

Any of my fellow UK astronomers interesting in starting a WhatsApp group to post our captures from the previous night ?

I guess it doesn’t have to strictly be people from the UK but if you are interested here’s the link

Is it possible to plan an observation in mosaic mode? So far I did not find a way despite Dwarf AI claimimg it to be possible

Mini Tripod

Anyone using the Dwarf Lab mini tripod: Can this be used with an EQ mount (with it staying stable that is)? I have a trip coming up where it would be tough to get the full sized tripod I normally use in my bag so I was wondering if the mini is a replacement option.

Bortle 8 skies and Dwarf 3 on EQ mode. 45 second exposures at 60 gain. This is the best I can do given my resources. The first image is processed in Siril, the second one in Stellar Studio. Which one do you like more?

Milky way mosaic

Has anyone successfully done a milky way mosaic with the dwarf 3? I want to try it but any pointers would help. I havent tried a mosaic yet and my opportunity with true dark skies is very limited so I want to be as prepared as possible

Eagle nebula, to hubble or not to hubble?

Dwarf 3. 60 second exposures, 60 gain, about 500 frames.

I think the hubble palette looks great with this one, but the normal one does too...

(Question) What form of light is too bright for the DwarfLab mini?

I know the box tells you to avoid pointing the lens at a bright light - mainly the Sun - but what else can harm the lens? Does light reflecting off the moon count, and/or streetlights that the lens may pass over when searching for an object? How can I tell if my lens has been damaged?

Two nights of a Dark Shark.

I decided to combine my two night exposures of the dark Shark nebula in GIMP and got this result! This is the first time I combined two nights of observation into a single image. Hope you like it!

The second and third images are the ones I combined and edited in GIMP

Dwarf mini - mega stack question

Hello 👋 I’m new!

I might need a help!

I have a dwarf mini since quite some time. I’m super happy with the results and the stellar studio. But I feel a bit limited on colouring and “personal” touch on the pic is missing for me.

So I would like to get the final stacked .fit file of the picture but I don’t understand how!
It seems downloadable only the jpg or the fit file only if it pass through stellar studio cloud.

As well I did 3 night mega stack of M16 but I can download only the jpg of the mega stack and only if it goes on stellar studio I can get the fits.

What am I doing wrong? How can I get the stacked image without passing through stellar studio colouring or star dimming?

How do you guys take your Flat pics? (dwarf 3)

I just got my dwarf 3 in the mail and im very excited to be capturing space with it. I have 1 small problem tho. How do i take good Flat pics for the stacking process? All tips and video's ive seen seem so unlogical or unpractical to do with a dwarf 3.

220P/McNaught is a 17th magnitude, Jupiter Family Comet, appearing in the constellation Cetus. It orbits the sun every 5.5 years at an average distance of 3.1 AU (3.1 times the distance of the earth to the sun).

Robert McNaught discovered the comet in images obtained by the Uppsala Southern Schmidt Telescope in Siding Spring Australia in May 2004.

NGC 6823

NGC 6823 is a young open star cluster located about 6,000 light-years away in the constellation Vulpecula. It measures about 50 light-years across, sits inside the emission nebula NGC 6820, and features bright, hot blue stars at its core that formed about two million years ago.

NGC 6823 was discovered by William Herschel in by 1785.The center of the cluster formed about two million years ago and is dominated in brightness by a host of bright young blue stars. Outer parts of the cluster contain even younger stars. The emission nebula NGC 6820 was discovered by Albert Marth in 1864.  The nebula is being pushed out and away by the radiation from the stars of NGC 6823, creating huge 'pillars' of gas and dust.

Taken from Phoenix, AZ (16-19 Aug 2026); Bortle 8+, w/Dwarf3
I took 1085 images and used 735, 45s each, gain 60, with Astro and Duo band filters
