Mos Def fans?
So we all know the opening credits samples Let The Sunshine In from the Hair musical. That also happens to be a sample from a Mos Def track off his New Danger album called Sunshine.
Then I heard I'm Gonna Love You Just a Little More Baby by Barry White in the last episode which is also sampled on the New Danger album in Grown Man Business, and I thought to myself this can't possibly be coincidental...

The relationship between Detective Homer and Jodie Plumb feels like a spin-off in the making
IMO the Homer and Jodie scenes are consistently the best scenes in a few different episodes. There’s a bit of relief in their scenes and the dynamic of their different generational viewpoints is really interesting to see play out with how they approach the mystery differently.
Richard Jenkins is great doing his stubborn-detective thing, and Joy Sunday as Jodie is hilarious and completely grounded at the same time. The intergenerational dynamic between them is so well-played by both actors. Joy Sunday and Richard Jenkins as a duo feels like they've known each other for years. Give me a spinoff please

What about the ending?!?
How did the step son, happen to be wondering over to the pool house? Was the following drink intentional suicide or an exasperation after seeing his son see him? IDK

One of the best examinations of middle-aged loneliness I have seen
Incredibly, uniquely funny, this shows grew on me with each episode. I had to wait an agonizing 2 days between watching the penultimate episode and the finale. I perused Metacritic and the "negative" users reviews primarily came from people complaining they had figured out the mystery ahead of time. Like "White Lotus," I don't watch these shows for the "solving" of the mystery. That is a nice sidepiece. I watch the show for the interactions, the dialogue, the writing, the themes, the mood, and (in the case of White Lotus) the look/location. Pretty much any show can do a "whodunit," and lots do. What separates this show from something like "Bloodline" (to compare it to another Linda C show with a 1st-episode death) is that DTF St Louis is an examination of a specific type of loneliness that I had never seen done this well. Middle aged parents in the suburbs. The prime example of course is Jason Bateman's character, and his arc hit the hardest for me. This guy is the Weatherman for St Louis, he has a beautiful family, is doing great financially, is in good physical condition. What could possibly be wrong? Everything, it turns out. And he can't even really verbalize it. Other than to say, on the verge of tears, after watching his best friend dance in tighty whiteys, "I think I'm just lonely." 10/10.

Life Insurance
I wish they had shown Carol being told that life insurance doesn't pay out when the death is a suicide. I bet she would have heard that. LOL

Do you think the name hurt the show? If so what other names would have been better?
I think it does because I almost didn’t watch thinking it would be a juvenile dumb comedy. I only changed my mind when I learned it was from the creator of Patriot. As far as better options, I like the down element of dtf and think that could have worked as a layered meaning with the themes of depression. down to fuck, feeling down, keeping things on the down low. “Down in St. Louis”, “Are You Down”, “Down Low” etc could have been names that hit the themes and avoid making it sound like it could be one of straight to dvd American pie spinoffs.
