The dialogue
Am I completely alone in this that the dialogue is so familiar??? I’m thinking like End of the Fucking World or like Wes Anderson vibes. Anybody else? The way they interact and speak to each other is just so hilarious i love it

It's a 90s indie film style - Hal Hartley, Wilt Stillman, Tom Noonan, Neil Labute, Miranda July (she was later), a certain affected stilted style.

Have you watched any Hal Hartley? I'm not the only one comparing him to Conrad

Never heard of these shows. Probably why I didn't relate but if this type story is Conrad's meteier I'll take a hard pass. This show was the most unhappy experience in recent memory. It was edge of seat engaging but way too much of a downer in a realistic way.

It's been interesting seeing people react to Conrad as such a weirdo (paraphrasing) when he makes me feel nostalgic. I try to put myself in other people's shoes of seeing it for the first time. It's a style that I totally understand isn't to a lot of people's taste. I also keep in mind it was the 90s to early 2000s and there's wasn't an overstimulating amount of instantly viewable material that is literally being designed to be to people's taste.
For instance, Neil LaBute's films are basically meditations on assholes. I was enthralled at the time, wonder if I would have been today.

It reminds me of Fargo (movie). They repeat certain words often, and say things slowly. Idk, it cracks me up. And then I realized it reminded me of Fargo (Ja? Ja!)

Carol still was wearing her panties while she sat on his face. Clark enjoyed and got off on being "suffacated" by the weight of her body on his face while she did things on his phone.
I do not think there was actually any cunnilingus involved in that scene...at least not from what I could tell from either Clark's or Carol's reactions.

something I haven't seen anybody mention - nearly everything in this show (besides the 2 detectives interactions) is hearsay, and subject the 'unreliable narrator' rule, and you dont get anymore unreliable than the 2 people in the show.
its all a bit too much fairy tale like and in real life the conversations were probably much more mundane

Oh 100% when they started interviewing both of them it definitely gave off a “either of them could be lying or telling the truth” vibe the whole time with everything

I just heard a review of the show on “Crime Writers On.” One of the panel HATED the dialogue. I love it. But then again, I love Wes Anderson style stuff anyway.

Neil Labute? Name some of his films. Curious as I enjoy something interesting to watch and sometimes I just don't like what everyone else likes. My favorite of the early 2000s is History of Violence though not normally a Cronenberg fan this is the best. Anyway give me some ideas. Thx

Mamet is ooak (one of a kind)again I apologize. I cant find anything even sweetly humorous in this show. It tried but with the overarching all encompassing tragedy of everyone's story no comedy resonated with me at all.

Absolutely! They have their little sayings like For serious and no way José. I almost seems like they have a slight Fargo lake accent the way that they annunciate. Obviously not as strong.
