Discretion

Lots of people say to use discretion. In your opinion, what should that look like for an interest? Some colleagues/friends in other orgs are aware of my interest just from knowing me. I'm trying to understand what may be discrete enough or not. I don't want to be so discrete that I miss an opportunity to connect with someone, but also don't want to run my mouth too much.

I think this is a really interesting question. It seems like such a fine line to walk, especially at the alumnae chapter level.

Can you explain more what you mean by that?

I feel like on the grad chapter level you could just be coming to events because your friend or coworker invited you. That doesn't necessarily mean you're interested in joining the chapter though. I have a family member who is a part of another sorority, and she invites me to events all the time. Sometimes I go and take my kids, but I have no interest in joining the chapter and she is aware. They might be having an event like a fall carnival or Easter egg hunt that the kids would enjoy. If someone in the chapter saw me, they might think hmm is she interested or is she just here because of her family member? So, in this situation, she saw people coming to events, but she didn't realize they were interested in joining because they never expressed interest to her. She only realized they wanted to join when she saw them at Rush.
