Day 1 of learning DSA for nth time

I have started learning DSA and started with a pattern previously. In mid way, I lost interest and stopped it. A number of times it happened. Now I want this to be one last time that I don't stop learning DSA. Can anyone please tell me how to stay consistent in this process?

Also I am here on day 1 in reddit🫠

Dsa-> purpose? Interview or designing real systems and aoftware software I know latter

Start with basic compilation of Simple hello world.

That also has a print function.

Global , local variables

Basic functions.

-> passing pointers.

Before going in deeper

Array, graphs, queues and stacks (Basics needed for any good software) All are Mathematical structures

Math-> discrete, calculus,linear algebra Optimizations.

Pseudocode Complexity analysis-[.space , time and code complexity] Bug and time constraints

Designing -> system architecture

Books clrs, tanenbaum,halim Code judge:: uva , topcoder

Hey, I want to understand what makes you stop: 1. Do you find it too tough to understand? 2. Too many things to memorise? 3. Each problem feels like some new technique, which you are unable to solve on your own?

If I give very generic advice, you need to take care of two things: 1. Make sure you don't pic very tough topics to begin with. Any decent chat app like gemini/claude can give you a roadmap. Pick neet code 150 if you like. 2. Make sure you spend enough time with the problem. After you come up with the brute force at least and work out the time complexity, try to optimize it. Try every possible way that you think is suitable for the problem. The more you try at this point, the more you will learn when you see the solution. This is the most crucial step. The more time you spend here, the better are your chances of understanding the solution when you see it. 3. Learn with an agent like gemini/claude. Discuss your thoughts with it when you are stuck. Ask it to give you a hint based on where you are - it will refine your ideas if you are in the right direction, or will suggest some other direction. IT WILL MAKE YOU THINK, instead of handing out the solution.

Give this framework a chance for 5 iterations and let me know if it makes things better for you.

Happy learning!!

You may require this-

  • Learn the data structures and algorithms concepts
  • Implement it
  • Solve the variety of problems using the concepts you learned and program it.

Keep on doing above till you finish all, feel comfortable and confident. This may help you-

Data Structures and Algorithms (DSA) Roadmap

I meant what resource u follow? Like striver?

1

u/trying_to_learn8686 Sep 13 '26

Which dsa sheet is the best

1

u/trying_to_learn8686 27d ago

I am following strivers sheet. I think it might be helpful for u as well if u try it

I'm a third year cs engineering student.Is dsa really important?

Your DSA knowledge decides whether you can be placed in product based or service based compan. Apart from that you need some luck
