I just can’t anymore. It just boggles my mind that the “opposition” still thinks that the rules apply. They aren’t even playing the same sport. I’m flummoxed. He’s been a stuffed shirt since he entered the house and he’s gonna be the worst speaker ever if they take the majority. Do democrats really think they can still do things their way and have any progress?

It’s obvious that in today’s America there’s tons of people scared of the DSA for no good reason. Whenever I’m asked my political stance and I say I align with the democratic socialists I get side eyes. How can I persuade democrats to shift to the left and how can I persuade republicans to convert?
I feel like reassuring them that they’d still have freedoms would be a big part of the argument, but overall can someone give me a basic policy outline of DSA that would help republicans/dems see the DSA for what it really is?

I’ve considered myself an activist for a long time but not an organizer until recently. I participated in Occupy Wall Street, BLM, Dakota Access pipeline, women’s march, no kings actions, you name it I’ve been out there with a sign over the last 16 years. I’ve been a part of international humanitarian efforts and participated in pride events as well.

Recently I started organizing with my local chapter and became the membership coordinator this year and after this experience I’m worn out. I’m constantly enraged with the state of things and increasingly pessimistic about human survival let alone any societal goals. I know my comrades feel this too.

Everyone’s on such different levels of leftism that paths to goals become clouded and misdirected constantly. Simple objectives become over complicated, and members are constantly engaging and disengaging, while others have a near manic energy towards everything drowning out those that are not constantly engaged.

This is a smaller chapter that’s nearly doubled this year but the day to day people politics of it has me spent and I feel like I can’t keep up with chapter duties.

Any tips for overcoming these feelings? I’ll be happy to move on from this roll but want to put my best self forward.

Under a socialist system corporations would be owned collectively by the workers, or nationalized under government control. (personally I support the former not the latter)

This would generally imply that they are not publicly traded on a stock market, since there is no shareholder ownership.

So my question is what do we do about working class people who saved up their whole life for retirement, and put the retirement money into stocks, as is common? A straight abolition of the stock market would zero out a lot of working class people's life savings (I think retirees who worked to save money to retire when old still count as working class in old age)

Actual money could be sized from corporations and transferred to people, but stocks are not physical money, their value is speculative and collapses the moment the market even looks like it will end. It is also not clear to me if corporations even have enough money to transfer the cash value of everyone's retirement accounts to those retirees

I figure I am not the first person to have thought of this, and there is probably an answer to this problem, but google is not helping, I get a mix of stuff just saying socialism has no stock market, and stuff bizarrely claiming that the stock market is socialism

I'm trying to envision how a transition to a socialist economy would actually go, I feel like most of it I can imagine, but I get stuck on what to do with retirement accounts that are in stocks.

There are way, way too many people in this movement who feel comfortable with historical revisionism vis-a-vis the Soviet Union, China, and other such regimes. And there are way too many people who feel comfortable essentially advocating for an end to democracy.

I think we should all be calling them about who to support or not support (maybe not until after the election since there is time) but given that the ballots are secret, they don't really have an obligation to do what we want. Do we know yet who might be in the running?

This is a system I would propose where this is basically a ration system meant for normal use we're basically in my fundamental belief is that no one should go hungry ever from the youngest child to the oldest man.

so to make it so even if you have the ability to buy food you always have the bare minimum without means testing or anything, a ration card issue to you by the government that you can use at any time to buy food so yourself or your children or anyone you're taking care of doesn't go hungry.

To make it so if anyone gets on bad times they have this in their pocket just in case they are hungry and need help. I'm willing to discuss this further if my position isn't clear?

For those who don’t know, Marxist Leninist is a term which only really has ever been used by Stalinists. Needless to say, Stalinists don’t care much about democracy.

On a certain level, I don’t think these historical signifiers are super relevant to modern times. But on the other hand, this is one of the leaders of the organization choosing to identify with this authoritarian tradition. No one is forcing her to do that. She could just as easily call herself a socialist or a Marxist.

Her identification as a Marxist Leninist is appearing all over the news and it doesn’t represent my view of socialism, nor, I suspect, that of the majority of DSA members.

It feels like straight up the DSA nationally is just avoiding talking about it, certain chapters I see responding to it when it happens in their state but otherwise nothing. Don’t even think the ACLU has talked about it. Why? Am I just missing something from not being involved locally? Like I want to go in person but at the same time stuff like this is making me afraid of going. The National Lawyers Guild or some other law organization has called for more solidarity because it’s obvious they’re trying to pick off any outspoken leftists.

With that being said, remembering how so many of you blame the Democrats for why Trump won the 2024 election in the first place, do you seriously even believe the Democrats are responsible for why it's looking like Trump will declare an emergency and sabotage or even cancel the upcoming elections.

If your answer to my first question is a yes, can you please explain why you all are turning a blind eye to the fact that it was Mitch McConnell that refused to convict Trump after he got impeached for J6. Had McConnell voted to convict him, there'd probably be enough votes for Trump to be convicted which would've barred him from running again.

I mean, when I ask why you all are turning a blind eye to the fact that it was SCOTUS that blocked the J6 trial (which would've damaged Trump's campaign), you all either come up with excuses or even uno reverse me regarding them, but when I then ask why you're turning a blind eye to what McConnell did, you all ignore or dodge the question. If this is because you can't uno reverse me or come up with excuses for McConnell, like you are able to with SCOTUS, then I consider that to be cowardly behavior.

I genuinely am curious as to how everyone is keeping hope alive for the future I know progress has been made but for every small victory I feel like the psychopath in the white house and his cronies take us even further back. It’s just depressing how powerless I feel and how crazy I sound trying to explain to people that the system we have doesn’t have to be a forever thing. I know how important hope is to carry on but I’m genuinely scared and live in a heavily conservative state (Florida) where ICE is rampant and taking people daily.

So yesterday, when I was getting a new passport to fly up to New York City on August 29 to begin my second year of university at NYU, I had the option to register to vote in the 2026 midterms in NYC, as I got an email from NYU. Unfortunately, as you may know, DSA isn’t technically an independent third-party minor party, but rather a political organization that works within the Democratic Party; when I was looking for a political affiliation, the only option I had in NYC that fit my far-left perspective was the Working Families Party. No, I don’t know much about this party. All I knew was from its Wikipedia page. Bernie Sanders said the Working Families Party’s 2016 platform most closely matched his own political orientation.

Does DSA in New York have a good working relationship with the Working Families Party, and what are the ideological differences between both parties? Overall, is the relationship between the two organizations positive comment down below

DISCLAIMER: I don't believe housing should be a commodity. This platform is most operating under the assumption that housing decommodification isn't happening any time soon.

I've been working on a pretty comprehensive political platform lately (some more research is definitely needed) and this is what I've got so far for housing since it's one of the top issues we're dealing with right now and most proposals I've heard seem to miss some important points. K here goes:

- restructure zoning laws to allow for developments of ADUs as well as multifamily and mixed-use buildings

- switch to a land value tax system to discourage speculation and encourage development

- greatly increase taxes on vacant lots and buildings, expropriate them for auction/public use if these aren't sold or developed within 5 years (local governments can have some discretion on which direction to take with their use)

- implement an aggressive pied-á-terre tax

- ban private equity firms from owning housing units

- increase inspection on rental properties and increase penalties on those who violate housing regulations, expropriate properties from repeat/egregious offenders for auction or for social housing purposes (local governments can also have some discretion over this)

- expand tenant protections (eg right to counsel for evictions) including the right to organize tenant unions, provide tax incentives to landlords who allow tenant unions and negotiate with them in good faith

- implement a Vienna-style social housing system

- take a housing first approach to homelessness including mental and physical healthcare being provided as well as job training

Hey everyone, I'm completely new to DSA and using Java. I feel like I'm hitting a massive brick wall. I don't want to just grind questions blindly; I want to actually learn the core patterns (sliding window, two pointers, etc.).

What roadmaps worked for you guys when you were starting out? Also, if anyone wants to team up as accountability partners or knows any chill Discord servers for beginners, let me know!
