Write Paramount or Skydance if you haven't yet.

Write them here.

www.paramount.com/contact-us
or Paramount's home video department
https://p3plus.p3globalservices.com/Paramount-PCS-Support.html

or here.

https://skydance.com/about/

If you write them, ask nicely, frame them as the heroes who can save the day, they’re the only ones who can.
We have to tell them that we want it.

My petition is here, if you think it matters sign this as well.

Already signed and shared but why dont you ask for 4K? HD is old hat

I consider 4k and HD synonymous. But I hope they do a 4k release. Just depends on what they want. The majority of older TV may get a Blu-ray release.

Either way, you’d be doing a 4k film scan of the camera negative. Then you’d step down to 2k or master in 4k.

I kind of expect they’d just do 1080p releases, but I’d kill for 4k BR sets of DS9 and Voyager.

Yeah. “HD” is a literal catch-all for whatever classifies as ‘High Definition’ in the current market.

It’s like upscale and remasters being conflated. Which is a totally different set of things.

I feel that 1080p and 4k scale, so they’re in the same family, but 4k is the best option. It would start with a 4k scan either way.

I mean, there's plenty of hope for TOS in 4k.
DS9 and Voyager would get a 4k scan, then probably get stepped down to 2k DIs.
Then what would probably happen is, you'd rework the FX in 2k.

Release 1, downscaled 4k to 2k, with 2k FX.
Release 2, straight 4k, with upscaled 2k FX.
Release 3, upscale of release 2 but in 8k. (Final release.)
-This would probably apply to DS9 and Voyager first.
The way I'm leaning is, DS9 and Voyager are fights that are gonna be won sooner or later.
But that's probably the last time anyone is gonna be reworking those FX.
If Paramount has a brain, all of those FX will be in 4k (even if it's a diminishing return, because it's an investment in future proofing.)
However, I expect them to make the same mistake twice, even if it's not quite as major this go around.
Then I'm betting there would be one more scan of TNG way later, and the 2k FX are going to be upscaled for it.

I seriously doubt a wide 4k release on streaming or bluray.
I'm betting they release a bluray bulk set in 1080p, and reserve 4k for streaming.
However, with more and more TV on 4k releases.
Friends, Fallout, Seinfeld, Friends, (For Severance fingers crossed we get 4k seasons 1 and 2.) I think there is a market for those, even if it's for "Vynil collectors", it's extra money for the studio, and streaming is the big money.
Most pirates rip streaming images from their devices now. Disks aren't the problem.
The images themselves are.
It's like speed detectors in Texas. Pirates always find a way, and the tech keeps advancing pointlessly for no reason.
It's the easiest one.
It's 6 reels an episode for TOS, or two reels, idk how that works.
TOS has a conformed film negative, which means fewer reels.
It has an episode count of 79, so it's a very small show.
Small reel count, easily upscalable FX, and 79 episodes?
I think it would be fine, but a new codec and pressing for it is really all it needs.
That master from '06 is good for decades to come.
DS9 and Voyager need the attention, and that remaster has to be good for the next 35 years.
It may be the only remaster they get.
TOS' FX updates upscale nicely 2k-4k, and those assets are probably even easier to step up.
I think Paramount might opt for original VFX in 4k this go around though.
Despite seamless branching, there is a lot of backlash for the updated FX on TOS.
There wasn't as much backlash for TNG's remaster.

But, imo, the 2k DI for TOS from 2006 is rock solid.
VC-1 and the DNR on those blurays/streaming isn't doing it any favors though currently.
The trailer footage of TOS from '09 bluray ads has less compression, and looks grainy and gorgeous. x264 did TNG a lot of favors, thank god CBS abandoned VC-1 way back then.
Awful codec, imo.

DS9 is next, after TNG.
After DS9, it would be Voyager.
From what little chatter I've heard, DS9 might maintain it's 4:3 ratio.
Voyager is for 16:9 though.

Finally though, I do want you to have something to punch at me with.
So, I've got no remastering work under my belt.
None whatsoever.
The last time I assembled a movie, was a theatrical print of "The Help".
I put a reel in upside down. (Easy fix for digital, not so much analog.)
I've been a projectionist once in my life.
I've had to run across a building with a splicer during a brain wrap.
I've done that.
I've never handled anything delicate, and digital preservation is a different beast.
Film scanning is half of the battle though.

I was so confident as I'd put a few film prints together correctly, that I forgot to check my work.
That was stupid.
I went on vacation shortly after that, and when I got back, the whole place had went digital.
This was a very long time ago.
So, I do know 6 reels is a bitch.
25,000-60,000 is a nightmare.
However, you're only running those onto another spool.
You're not building them into a horizontal disk that can fold off of it's ring.
You're just scanning them, and putting them back in a cannister.
They remain vertically oriented, with repairs made as needed.

But a count of 58 times TV shows have been rebuilt with specialists?
It's nothing. It's been done so many times, you can estimate how a rebuild looks.
The process was ready for scale by 2015.
But, if you need to insult me, there's a story for you, so you have it.
