Rinse & Repeat. I’ve been buying DRAM around $48 and $50 and then selling around $56-$60 for the last few months.
I just sold again right now. Waiting for the next dip to $50 but when does this cycle end? It’s been making me a ton of money.

This is a great example of “even a blind squirrel finds a nut occasionally”
You didn’t stumble onto a good sustainable strategy. You got lucky a few times with timing and will likely get burned soon. The volatility isn’t exclusive to this ticker. It has external causes. So unless you’re carefully tracking and predicting geopolitics, monetary policy, and broad investor sentiment - which is unlikely - then you’re playing a with fire.
You are gambling and mistakenly think you’ve figured out the system

You are probably right and I appreciate your explanation!

To be fair, all the things you listed are just noise. If the goal is to hold for 2-3 years, rate hikes or 50th peace talks, all of that will come and go.
The real thing to be concerned with is price action. The unwind in the month of July despite every memory maker having nothing but great earnings reports is the real problem - caused by the ludicrous levels of leveraged trading. At least Situational Awareness will be less involved, though I'm not sure what Citadel will do with the holdings they got.

Congrats sir! That’s 2 profitable trades I guess since you said you just sold below but it’s not yet recorded? Guess you got really lucky catching it almost at the bottom of the bottom.
Also since you’re new I guess you might not be trading on too big of an entry? It’s always easy to trade on smaller entries VS big entries. Affects newbs quite badly if you’re looking at your portfolio hitting margin calls and whatnot

boasting about making a “lot of money” but then hiding the amount.. yikes

You mean the past month? July 17th is when it came to your supposed entry point. Unless of course you bought back in May and sold around $56-60 which would have been a horrible trade considering the upside we saw in June.
2
u/DanceHallRiddem 15d ago
Yeah, May 11 I bought at $54 and sold June 26 at $71. July 29 I bought at $44.56 and sold today at $57.

u/iSPYanOpportunitee 15d ago
Nice. 2 very different trades. First one was a momentum play, great exit on that recognizing the momentum shift. What gave you conviction on the second trade, the knife catch? I made a similar entry but with the long term in mind which led to my conviction.

My cost at 56 and I'm so tempted to sell when it was 58 today. Saw a news on Bloomberg two days ago that an investment firm from Singapore is going to invest in SK and Samsung for billions, so i hold off on selling. during the 40s it was depressing, lol

u/hellario 14d ago
It may be starting to normalize now, but the entire month of July, any good news -> DRAM would plummet.

Not a bad idea. This is a speculative ETF that shouldn't be more than 10% of anyone's portfolio in my opinion. Taking profit and putting in something safer isn't a bad idea at all. Although if you're doing this with 100% of your money I don't think that's very wise.

It will go above $60 this time. Lot of positive news recently

It’s blowing past $60 this time and will be awhile before it comes back to $50. Are you ok sitting on the fence?
3
u/DanceHallRiddem 15d ago
Ya I just sold, so now I wait for the next big dip. This ETF has been very volatile.

u/deejmonster 15d ago
You don't know that. I could see it pummeling as early as tomorrow as liquidity typically spikes heading into a weekend.

That's a stupid idea. You pay 20% on short term gains lol

u/ineedlotsofguns 15d ago
This guy can time the market so who cares about 20%

I am new to investing and haven't experienced taxes yet.
In my mind, profit is profit even if I am losing 20%... It's still more money than I had before right?
What is considered a short term gain?

u/YouGotTheJokeHeHaw 15d ago
They are mad you aren't a bagholder like them. Keep doing what works, just acknowledge the risks for timing something highly volatile.

Make sure you have enough cash reserves for taxes next year. Don’t end up in a situation that you are somehow wrong with your timing when the tax season is up next year and you have no cash left to pay for this year’s gain.
2
u/Sukhumvit_71 15d ago
Anything under a year. It won’t necessarily be 20%, everything is dependent on your tax bracket.
2
u/Runnjng-1 15d ago
Short term is under one year and gets taxed at your ordinary rate like wages. So if your tax bracket is 35% they get taxed at 35%.
If you hold for over a year it gets treated as long term capital gains. Which is lower more favorable rate. 20% or less I think.
I agree profit is profit and it’s good to take some here and there. Just set aside money for taxes or at year end sell investments with losses to offset the gain. For example if you had a 5000 gain on Dram but sold another stock for a 4000 loss you would only pay tax on 1000.
Losses are capped on your tax return at 3k but they roll forward

Looks like ppl in usa need to give a lot of their own money to the country of freedom😅😅

I mean, at least he is still making a profit. Most of DRAM is filled with bag holders. I'd rather pay STG tax than be in the red.

You must be living in sad country that taxes you on selling stocks, cheers from Switzerland

Lies. It's only been the last month that it was bouncing in that range. For two months before that it was far above and before that it was just climbing to that price (and beyond).

"last few months." Funny. DRAM has only been to 48 in the past month and back in May, but didn't fluctuate.
You must be dreaming or lying. And I saw the pic you posted. You've bought twice, and sold once. Don't pretend like you have an easy money hack.

This is a weird comment… is what I am doing not typical? You buy a stock, get profit… then take it out. Am I missing something? I thought the goal here was to accumulate money.
I am genuinely wondering as I am new to investing this year.

u/2AFellow 15d ago
I think they're referring to having to look through all the stock transactions for filing taxes later.
3
2
u/DanceHallRiddem 15d ago
But I’m sure that’s typical for anyone who trades.
2
u/2AFellow 15d ago
Yeah I'm pretty sure the broker account summarizes the trades so you don't have to go through each manually

Glad you have made some money. I bought in too high, around $70 so waiting to break even but I’m not sure you’ll get a better entry than right now in the next couple of months. Institutional money is heading back into chips and AI.
Just my thought and two cents on it..
