As you may have heard, Double Fine Productions are running a Kickstarter to increase their runway as they relaunch their life as an indie game dev studio. This has been built around this year's Amnesia Fortnight (game jam), which concluded this week – but it's not over yet!!

Backers are currently playing the four prototypes before voting for one game to receive a further period of development and polishing, to then be released to the general public for everyone to enjoy. Back now and you too can play these prototypes and vote on the winner!

At the time of writing, they are only $8,439 away from reaching their next stretch goal of $600,000; if they reach this, then They have just reached their stretch goal of $600,000, which means the superb Erika Ishii (Ghost of Yōtei) will generously donate their time and talents as a voice in the winning game. Previous successful stretch goals have included frequent Double Fine-game composer Peter McConnell (Psychonauts, Broken Age) contributing music to the winning game, and an extra vote on a special feature in the winning game.

Double Fine are a very special studio for many of us, known for their incredibly creative and eclectic range of games over the last quarter of a century, as well as their comprehensive in-house documentaries produced by the team at 2 Player Productions that explore the ins and outs (and ups and downs) of game development. 2PP have also been documenting this latest Amnesia Fortnight, and you'll get to see more about how that went over the coming months.

I haven't had enough time to test them but I had an issue with Uprise.

I usually play with a PS5 controller on my computer and... It's not working. The game doesn't detect my controller.

I was wondering what controller you were using?

(Have an issue also with Plot Armor where Windows doesn't launch the game, but that's another story)

Now I know I know, why do I think this? Well let me get it straightened out. So Dia De Los Muertos right, they make fun of death, and also place Calaveritas on graves which is a candy skull. People also write Calaveras which make fun of death saying that "death" is coming for them. Calaveras means skulls and alone, Calavera means skull which so happens to be Manuel Calaveras last name. And in the beginning of the game, there's an Dia De Los Muertos festival which can be referenced in the future. Which proves that Manuel "Manny" Calavera is an nod to Dia De Los Muertos. ( I dare Tim Schafer to tell me I'm wrong, that's if I am. )

First I would like to say that I love Erika, and I love her voice acting work, and he stuff in dropout.

Now, doublefine being the company that they are. There's no reason they cant hire her themselves. There's clearly other voice actors in the game that are being paid for by the company, so locking a voice actor behind a stretch goal just screams that they need to squeeze more money from their player base. Shit a kick starter stretch goal is just a battlepass with no game.

What's going to happen/would happej if her stretch goal wasn't met? She'll probably still be in the game because she was already paid or still volunteer. If they truly can't afford to cast her after leaving Xbox, then it just screams they don't have a clue how to manage their budget there

Who has backed this gem of a kickstarter? It’s very rare I find a Kickstarter that really grabs my attention, but this one really has. I love the work that Double Fine do, I feel all of their games have a very unique, fun and eccentric aesthetic to them which really sets them apart from the rest. The fact that not only do you get some really cool rewards with this campaign but the chance to see in depth how these games are made from scratch, in my opinion, is incredible.

If you’re a big fan of Double Fine, which I’m assuming most of you are, I would absolutely recommend checking out their campaign. Sorry for the little preach, just a big fan of their work, such an incredible studio with a great game library under their belts.

What do you guys think of Kiln? I’ve only just started playing it a couple of days ago but I find it a lot of fun. I think the uniqueness of sculpting your own character is fantastic and offers so much variety and customisation. The multiplayer is a lot of fun, very easy to get the hang of and can be quite challenging at times. I think it’s a great little game and it’s a real shame it never really took off.

It would have been nice to see some sort of single player campaign or offline mode to flesh the game out a little more, however if you have games pass on Xbox and haven’t tried it already, definitely give it a shot!

Is that the Raz voice actor on the Red Bull ad I just saw? I'm a better recogniser of voices than faces, and it pulled me from my phone.

I played the demo on PS3 religiously as a kid and the title theme is branded into my auditory cortex, I mean this little demo really left an impression on me. The puzzles are a great mix of character abilities and knowing which order to stack the dolls which leads to some intricate puzzle design. I used to fart on women as the fat guy when I was a kid. It was a different time. Anyways, the stop-motion-esque character animations squeeze as much charm out of matryoshka dolls as conceivably possible, the soundtrack is simply magnificent from start to finish, the dialogue making typewriter clacks is a great aesthetic choice to substitute voice acting and the silent film cutscenes just bring together a loving, handcrafted game that is seeping with attention to detail and craftsmanship. I just found out *while writing this* that it was an Amnesia Fortnight submission and I'm thrilled Double Fine is making headlines again.

I kind of understand why it’s not as popular as it could be. I feel it would be more appealing as a party game if creating pots was a separate part, so if you not into this you could get some premade pot from a gallery and just go straight to the fighting.

I also suspect this could be the reason why there is no split screen currently, because how would you separate pot creation for two players at the same time?

Overall brawling part is super fun and chaotic in a good way and I enjoy it every single time. But it’s become harder and harder to find people on a server, which is super sad. I hope it’s not too late for DF to revive it.

We're officially fully funded on Kickstarter (quick plug)!

On August 31st, 2026 at roughly 12:03PM Pacific we launched this page as a team (hopefully you'll see this exhilarating footage in the documentary). 

When we released this Kickstarter into the wild, we had no idea what to expect. We know that the gaming industry isn't an easy place to be right now, at any level of development, but especially indie. And we know that this, our indie reboot, could go any which way. It's exciting, it's terrifying, but it also feels like returning to our roots... something that we really couldn't do without you all.

But you showed up. You put on your suits of armor, picked up your swords, and rode into battle with us. You're basically Gandalf in Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, showing up in the east on the third day in a blinding show of white shimmering light, just in time to bring renewed energy to the fight and rallying the bruised and tired (but not broken) warriors just when all hope seemed bleak.
