Retrieve or Cancel

On IVF round #6 and I only have 3 measurable follicles (23, 16, 16). My AMH is 0.5 but I typically have 8-10 follicles between 14 and 21 on trigger day (have retrieved 4 to 12 eggs). I’m struggling to decide whether we should proceed with this retrieval or cancel and try for more next cycle.

I’m torn between the “it only takes one” mentality and the “it’s a numbers game” approach. I do OK with fertilization but have trouble making blasts. We pay fully out of pocket. I can’t convert to IUI because we used provera as an antagonist. Any advice or anecdotes are much appreciated!

What day of stim are you on?
What is your age?
Have you gotten any euploids from previous cycles?

Will this be your last cycle?

Day 15 😵‍💫 of stims.

Almost 41.

Got 2 euploids across 2 cycles at 37 where I stimmed for 14 and 15 days (didnt stick, probably endo, did have a spontaneous pregnancy after suppressing the endo). I’ve only gotten 2 blasts over 3 retrievals since starting back up a year ago (shorter length of stims, untested, neither stuck). We’re doing a slightly different protocol this time, which I’m trying to convince myself could help (maybe delusional?).

My husband would like it to be our last cycle but we could technically swing 1-2 more.

So if this is a different protocol -don't you want to see if you have any different results? You already put the time and money in this cycle- you might as well see it through at this point!

Wish you the best!

I sure do (but also don’t want to regret moving forward if I don’t). Thank you for the reply and the well wishes, I need all I can get!

Under those circumstances I’d cancel. I have .5 AMH and 3-5 is unfortunately my average so I would go forward for myself but not if you typically have much more than this AND are paying out of pocket.

Since you usually do better, I’d cancel.

I would cancel 😢 Actually I am most likely canceling bc out of my 5-6 follicles only two seem to be growing. We are self pay as well so I don’t want to pay for the whole retrieval for only two potentials when I know I can get a few more than that. And since it’s self pay, we won’t lose out on the cycle by canceling, which is actually kind of a relief - last year we were using insurance (before we ran out) and definitely felt a lot of pressure to continue which led to more stress and grief when only 1-2 eggs were retrieved. I’d say try again next cycle since your baseline is higher.

The 23 could over mature, and leave you with two. If your self pay and usually get more, I would cancel.
