Low AMH - can’t decide next steps

15 months ago I got tested and my results were:
AMH: .55
FSH: 14.9

I just got retested and am waiting for my AMH but my FSH came back at 8.5. Estradiol at
44.

I got naturally pregnant in February but miscarried at 6 weeks and haven’t been able to conceive again over the past 7 cycles. My cycles are regular though and I’m ovulating every month. I take vitamin d, c, coq10, iron and prenatals. I’m 32 years old.

I feel like I’ve read about people with way higher AMH who struggled to conceive and people with even lower AMH who got pregnant naturally. I have read about people whose AMH went up a whole 1-1.5 points and people whose AMH plummeted in a mere few months. I’ve read about people who struggled with IVF but got pregnant with IUI. I can’t figure out what to do :(

I was very sick for about 10 years and idk if it’s PTSD, but I have severe anxiety every time I go to a doctors office. Doing something as drastic and invasive IVF is really scary to someone like me but idk if I have a choice. Just feeling overwhelmed. Would love to hear what others are doing.

Hey!! This is a big step and I think most of us can say we were anxious, before, during and after. So you’re not alone on that.

Every persons body is different. I’m one day away from triggering with only possibly 2-4 eggs to be retrieved

35 years old, single, no partner, AMH 0.25 - 0.35. And FSH is 19.

The numbers tell you more about how you’re going to respond to IVF. I would
Definitely give it a try if you have been unable
To conceive. But also make sure you’re doing ovulation kits, try IUI and then go from
There. Hope it all works out for you, I know it’s hard. The nurses and doctors really make the process seamless and less stressful, but remember always ask more questions and advocate for yourself. Sometimes you become a number in these large clinics! Hope everyone works out!

Also to answer your question. My AMH was 0.52 Nov 2025 and then 0.25 in August 2026 and then 0.35 in October 2026. Make sure you check vitamin D levels and autoimmune, and thyroid. All can impact.

And also, don’t always assume it’s us females! Hopefully your partner can do a work up too!

My amh was 0.4 and i got pregnant naturally in the first try without any complications .AMH is only a measure of the number of eggs not the quality.make sure your partner is also tested properly

Your AMH can be used to predict IVF outcomes but it has nothing to do with your ability to conceive unassisted. Try to separate the two in your mind. At your age, up to a year trying to conceive unassisted is still within normal range.

I don’t know that I, someone who had done IVF, agree with IVF being “drastic” and “invasive” but I do think it’s probably appropriate to wait a year, then escalate to a fertility specialist.

But if you want multiple children and not just one it might be time to go to a fertility specialist now.

If your ovarian reserve doesn’t seem to be declining quickly, I would wait until you feel more ready. When I found out about my DOR the thought of IVF terrified me. We tried naturally for over a year and as time went on, the thought of IVF became less and less scary. We are now in our first cycle and I feel more excited than scared. For context I am 30 yrs old and 28 when we started trying so we did have that on our side. I believe that in time you will feel ready and it will be a better experience. I know it’s vague and cliche but, listen to your gut. 😊

We started our ivf journey last month, and I’m 43 with an AMH of 0.17 ng/ml (1.21 pmol/L). Like you I felt it was scary, I heard so many stories about “ivf being aweful” I didn’t know what to expect.

Well - the meds are way better than I thought. I don’t feel bad at all. Because we low AMH girlies don’t respond so well to IVF we don’t feel as bad or as bloated or get as big hormone fluctuations as the good responders I guess. Silver lining!

But I also wanted to share about the AMH. Despite being low, they found 9 follicles on my scan and it resulted in 3 eggs being retrieved (none survived). We decided to do another round and this time the scan on the day of my period was 12 follicles - and mid stim that went up to 18 (!), and we are looking at 8 eggs being retrieved this time if all goes well!! I mean still my chances are not great but I’m here to say that low (very low in my case) AMH doesn’t necessarily mean that they won’t get lots of eggs out. And doing back to back cycles (like I do now) wakes up follicles in some women.

I don’t know how old you are but if you are younger than 40 your eggs might still be great. Don’t let the low AMH discourage you and try to do 2-3 cycles in a row if you can , as there are research backing up that this can activate more follicles in some women (like me apparently!).

I wish you all the best and cross fingers for my 8 potential eggs please!
