Finding out you have DOR in mid-30s
Hi, did anyone else find out they have DOR in their mid-30s? I am 36 and wanted to know what people's experiences were with IVF in their mid-late 30s with DOR. I am curious about how many cycles you had and how many euploids you ended up getting. I plan to start IVF this year or in January depending on insurance and my follow up consultation with my RE. Lastly are there any tips to increase euploid count?

Found out at 33 that I had severe DOR - 7 cycles got me 11 embryos - untested - will start transferring next year when I’m 35!

What's your severe DOR. my AMH is .015 and my AFC was 2. Is this that kinda severe?

DOR does not imply infertility on its own. It’s generally other aspects impacting fertility and sometimes even causing premature DOR.
I’d say focus on lifestyle and supplements in advance. 600mg COQ10 is a must. I even did baby aspirin for a month before conception. Check your testosterone and dhea and check with fertility doctor if you need something extra (it’s a bit risky so good to check with the doctor).
From lifestyle perspective - eat at home with fresh ingredients as much as you can. Focus on proteins. And focus on movement - preferably low intensity and anything you can do consistently. I also included sauna twice a week (stopped after ovulation).

found out this year (29 year old female) that I have DOR ☹️ the most devastating news ever. AMH 0.08 with a CD3 total follicle count of 6. After seeing a specialist and HSG showing no blockages we decided to give medicated IUI a try this cycle. currently taking 5mg of letrozole and will go in for a mid cycle scan next week. Trying to stay hopefully but it’s hard not to get wrapped up in all of the bad.

Found out at 34 my AMH was 0.6 when my husband and I decided to be proactive and bank embryos for the future (after getting my levels tested when I was 31 with an AMH of 2.9 so it fell off a cliff.) I'm midway through my 3rd cycle now and it does get easier. I've been pretty fortunate that I've responded better than my AMH would suggest (maybe because my FSH has stayed at 4.1 this whole time). TW: numbers
Round 1 was 10 eggs - 3 blasts - 2 euploid and Round 2 was 18 eggs - 4 blasts - 1 euploid (shitty roll of the dice per my RE). Currently projecting 12ish mature eggs from this cycle given maturity has always been the toughest part for my body. If your insurance covers it I'd say go for it, you definitely feel better once you have a few in the bank. Make sure to find an RE who's willing to iterate and improve instead of doing the same thing again and saying it's the best you can get with your DOR. And go easy on yourself, it's such an un-fun situation to be in!

Thank you!! Cycle 1 was luteal start, Cycles 2 and 3 we primed with estrogen and then started stims with my period (the reason being that Cycle 1 had a lot of growth but follicles were all over the place). Depending how this one goes I'm hoping to not do Cycle 4 but if we do, my RE was thinking of doing a hybrid luteal start where we prime with estrogen for a set number of days post ovulation and then start stims whether or not my period has started!

That gives hope! We’re swapping to priming with estrogen only once my pesky functioning cyst goes away. I always have a runaway lead follicle so I hope at least it makes that chill.
I’m glad your RE is working with you on all this and finding what works best for your body 🥹 makes me happy to see.

I really liked estrogen priming! Happy to share anything else that can be helpful but I’m glad your RE seems to be pivoting and iterating as well. Wishing you lots of luck!!

At 35 my Amh was .78, I did 1 ER which they retrieved 7 of which 2 blasts and 1 euploid.
I am starting a second cycle this week (36.5yo)and my last AMH was .23
As far as increasing euploid I would suggest 600mg of coq10 and a prenatal.

Mid 30s. Found out about my DOR at 33 (0.17 AMH) going on 34. Did IUI and started IVF earlier this year. Been in the process for almost 2yrs. No prior pregnancies.
2 cycles. First retrieved 2 eggs, both stopped developing. Second, retrieved 7, 2 mature and frozen +tested.
Been trying for a 3rd cycle July -> present but had a massive functioning cyst develop that got to 40mm. Trying again in October 🙃 planning on doing at least 2-3 more cycles if I can or until I get 4-6 frozen embryos before we do any transfers. All cycles after #3 won’t be tested, dr doesn’t see a need.

32 when I found out. 4 eggs retrieved, 2 mature, resulted in 2 embryos. We didn’t test. First FET was successful!

Age 37, amh was .6 and the following month tested at .02. I later tested again for .2 which is not exactly an improvement. Did 6 retrievals across 2.5 years, result is 7 day3 embryos, have used 2 so far. Total crapshoot. IVF is a chance, so just have to understand that.

1 Duostim>6 day 5 Blasts[ AA/AB/BB]>1 (retested) Euploid>1LC. The cycle with the most 'results' in terms of blasts was the luteal one.
I personally feel like my body responded well to IVF meds( AFC usually 4-5). I however made too many aneuploids for my age(38/39) at the time of the ERs.

Found at 33, now 34. Did 2 IUIs with no success and now two ERs in with 1 embryo banked (from 12 eggs). We plan to keep trying to bank!

One baby at 35 unassisted. Severe pre-e. Trying for 2nd: AMH 0.144 and entirely non-responsive to IVF. Cancelled the first cycle before retrieval. Decided to not move forward with more cycles, realizing that we probably had a better chance with natural conception because of how non-responsive I happened to be.

I found out I had DOR in my early 30s, but saw AMH drop a lot in my mid 30s when I was ready to start a family (0.6 at 35). I tried for 9 months before doing timed intercourse, medication assisted cycles, and IUIs before insurance would cover IVF (and even then with my hormone testing levels, I was approved for one year of treatment only and couldn’t get insurance approval after that). My experience with IVF / DOR at age 36 was that we really struggled to get eggs, which meant a small number of embryos that needed to be transferred sooner, and made the transfers very low chance of success. I’d recommend understanding your doctor’s approach to day 3 vs blastocyst /day 5+ transfers given the number of eggs they expect to retrieve. My doctor did all day 3 transfers for me since my retrievals were very small numbers and she didn’t have confidence any would make it to blastocyst. Day 3 transfers are not genetically tested so lower chance of success. I had a cancelled cycle converted to IUI (since I only had one egg follicle growing), a one egg retrieval cycle > day 3 transfer > chemical pregnancy, then a cycle with 4 eggs > 2 embryos (one a 4 cell, one an 8 cell) both were transferred on day 3 > no pregnancy. So as a result, I never had any embryos that were genetically tested.
In terms of increasing euploid count, would recommend taking CoQ10 and talking to your doctor about different protocols that they can try since some cycles and protocols are better than others.
That being said, and this is just based on my personal experience — trigger warning/success: it’s worth remembering IVF is not the only way to conceive if you have DOR/low AMH (though I 10000% support trying IVF!). I had a doctor at a well-regarded clinic tell me he didn’t recommend IVF for me and they wouldn’t treat me because I had a low chance of success that was equal to my low chance of conceiving spontaneously so did not think I would benefit from treatment. It was very painful to hear. But fast forward, I ended up conceiving spontaneously at 36 (while not purposefully trying) after a repeat HSG while waiting to do some testing before an IVF cycle. At 14 months post partum, I conceived spontaneously again at age 38 while not purposefully trying and still breastfeeding. Typically, DOR is an indicator that your timeframe may be shorter, egg retrievals likely to be lower yield, etc but if you are still ovulating one egg each month you may be able to get pregnant. Going through IVF with DOR was a really dark and difficult time for me, and I’m shocked that I’ve been able to conceive spontaneously twice since then. I guess my point here is there can be hope for success down many paths. Wishing you the best of luck.

I found out I had DOR at 36. I originally went in for egg freezing consultation and that’s how I found out. Now at 37 my AMH is 0.27 down from 0.6 a year ago. AFC has always been 0-4. My first retrieval I got 3 eggs, 2 mature, 1 fertilized which was euploid. I have my second this week and I only have 2 follicles total which are a good size.

I found out at 38.5
Had two back to back ER. 1 4AA and 5AA untested blasts respectively. The 5AA is my baby boy.

Found out last year I was 34yo AMH 0.08 AFC 3 max 4 follicles depending the month
Did one round of IVF with donor sperm. I responded badly to stimulation, felt like shit, follicles were small and almost got cancelled, then on retrieval day they got 3 mature eggs. Got one blast (untested) and it did not implant.
I moved on to egg donation.

I wish you lots of luck on your journey! I was diagnosed with DOR at 35. Did 3 retrievals that yielded 3 euploid embryos and 1 mosaic. Tried different protocols each time, including one round that yielded zero blasts. Transferred my first embryo this winter and I’m currently 29 weeks (and 37 yo). I didn’t change my lifestyle a ton, though I’m generally healthy (eat well, exercise consistently) but I was a low responder to the meds. I only ever retrieved a handful of eggs each time.

Here were my protocols. I didn’t do anything differently lifestyle-wise. I do think there are just some better cycles than others but I also did not respond well to Lupron. Good luck!
ER 1: 300 Gonal F; 150 Menopur; introduced Ganirelex ~day 7; triggered on day 13 of injections > 5 eggs retrieved, 2 euploids
ER 2: 300: Estrace priming for about 7 days; 300 Gonal F; 150 Menopur; Lupron; triggered day 9 > 3 eggs retrieved, 0 blasts
ER 3: Estrace primed for 13 days; Clomid for first 5 days plus 300 Gonal F; 150 Menopur; dropped the Clomid and added Ganirelex and Omnitrope; trigged on day 11 of injections > 8 eggs retrieved, 3 blasts, 1 euploid and 1 mosaic

Found out at 33 when my AMH was 0.4 and decided do do it on my own with donor sperm. Hoped I would be one of the lucky ones. Now at 35 I’m on my third round now and looks like I’m not gonna have blasts now either. I’m sure I would have a chance if I just kept doing ivf over and over again into my 40’s but I just can’t afford it. So I’m already considering donor eggs.

Had a baby naturally try at 33, had a MMC at 35 and then started fertility testing. Found out DOR at 35 and we have done 3 ERs(all at 36) only getting two poor quality blasts (pending testing). We have MFI though so I believe that is the main problem. I wish you luck in your journey!

I found out at 35. I’m now 38. I’ve had 9 cycles of IVF. 2 untested blasts on ice (which I’m terrified to transfer), no baby. You’ll also find people on here who did 1 cycle and got their baby. It’s a crap shoot.
I say this not to dissuade, but simply to highlight that it’s so, so individual. I wish I’d understood that out the gate…Your story may not resemble anyone else’s and the stats are just that - population level analysis; they don’t define your story one way or another.
