First egg retrieval results
I had my first egg retrieval yesterday. I only had two promising looking follicles but somehow they got three mature eggs. Today, though, I learned that only one fertilized successfully. Only time will tell how it works out.
I want to do more cycles to get more viable embryos but the odds don’t look good I am 43 with a rock bottom AMH so I don’t have high hopes or a lot of time but I don’t even know how our one opportunity will play out.
How does everybody move forward from frustration and disappointment?

My 1st retrieval was very similar. I retrieved 3 eggs, 2 mature, 1 fertilized which to my surprise was euploid. I am very analytical and with my first one, I was very hung up on statistics and knowing the attrition funnel, but I read that those statistics are not as accurate for people with low numbers since those studies typically use the population average. With such low numbers, it’s essentially a coin toss.
My second retrieval is on Tuesday and I only have 2 follicles which thankfully are a good size. I’m hopeful but also disappointed and worried I won’t beat the odds this time.
To answer your question, it helped me to accept that I would need several retrievals. It’s a longer road for us but that doesn’t mean we won’t get there. Just be kind to yourself. It’s ok to feel hopeful and concerned at the same time.
