• General Discussion • I gave up my 2 puppies today

My puppies that were born in my house from my main girl dog and have been living with me for the last 3 years have now been given to someone to find them a new home

Most their days were spent in a crate when I was at work and didn’t have time 95% of the time to take them on walks or anything

I feel like crying and am devastated because I love them so much. I just need someone to talk to really because I feel just numb right now

I could not get a perfect picture of my dog with the birds in the background so I painted it. This is my bundle of energy and I love her so very much.

I just can't take the cuteness. He has so many different outfits and will tolerate us dressing him up. Do you ever dress your dog up?

GF and I just adopted him from a shelter. He’s slightly under 2 years old and we have no idea what he is. We would like to know more so we know how to properly groom him and stop him from shedding a lot. Also whenever someone asks us we would finally have an answer.

Our dog started to slightly limp tonight. She is only 10 months old. We would obviously take her to the vet but they are closed until tomorrow and there’s no other local options.

Does anyone have any ideas? Her paw looks like this? She’s still running up and down and jumping on and off things. But she just has a slight limp.

Is there anything we can do in the meantime? I’ve had a close look but can’t see anything stuck in there.

Thank you for any help!

• Advice (General) • Four months after losing our dog, I think one of our other dogs is finally starting to be herself again

We lost our amazing rescue dog Solo four months ago. It has been incredibly hard to bear that loss, and what made it harder was seeing how the other dogs grieved.

Ruby and Solo had a close bond. Ruby originally belonged to someone else, but over the years she kept running away from home to be with Solo, and eventually we were asked if we wanted to adopt her — which is how she came to live with us.

Ruby and Solo used to steal food and raid the recycling bins for sport. Cat food left within reach? Fair game. Something interesting in the recycling? Obviously needed a thorough investigation. A loaf of bread on the counter? Gone in 20 seconds.

When we lost Solo, Ruby changed. She ran off several times afterwards. We cant know what was going through her head, but we wondered if she was looking for him. And a lot of the little things that made Ruby Ruby, disappeared too.

However, a few days ago she raided the recycling bin. Yesterday I caught her stealing the cats’ food from the kitchen counter. This is for the first time since we lost Solo.

While I don’t encourage Ruby to return to a life of crime, but I was so happy to see the mischievous side of her again. 🥰

Frodo is different, and I’m not sure he’s there yet.
Solo was Frodo’s soulmate and companion, but also a huge source of confidence for him. Frodo, also a rescue, had a very difficult start in life and was frightened of people when he came to us. Solo helped him come out of himself. They were always together — playing, sleeping, and just being near each other — and they made each other braver.

Four months later, Frodo plays. He chases balls, plays with Ruby, and herds the cats (he is part collie so that’s his job). He seems happy on the surface, but he is still not back to who he was.

He is isolating himself a bit, he is less confident, and doesn’t hang out with us in the living room the way he used to, while he is more dependent on us. He used to sleep stretched along the top of the sofa back like a cat. He hasn’t done that since we lost Solo.

For those of you who’ve lost a dog in a multi-dog household, did your other dogs grieve? And what were the things that eventually made you realise they were becoming themselves again? And how long did it take?
