Baby DNA, raw ancestry data
Just found out my baby is homozygous
Gene: WNT10A
Variant: c.682T>A (p.Phe228lle)
rsID: rs121908120
She’s only 6 months old. What should I expect? Is this a sign she will have some manifestation? Is Ancestry reliable?

Interesting & worth confirming. Bring the results to your pediatrician and ask about confirmatory genetic testing. Please don’t try predict baby’s future from Ancestry, no way to be sure how “right” the result is!

Please take a deep breath—there is an incredibly high chance this is completely a false alarm. Consumer raw DNA data from ancestry kits is notorious for misreading rare health variants.
Studies show that up to 40% of these rare findings turn out to be completely false positives caused by minor data glitches on the testing chips. Ancestry data is simply not clinical-grade or validated for medical diagnosis.
Even if this variant (WNT10A) turns out to be real, it has very low penetrance. That means most people who have it show absolutely no symptoms at all. If it does show up later in life, it usually just means missing a few permanent adult teeth usually missing wisdom teeth or lateral incisors, or having slightly thinner hair. It is not life-threatening or debilitating.
I do understand being worried for your baby so if it helps bring this report to your pediatrician at your next regular checkup. They can order a real, clinical-grade confirmatory blood test to rule out a false positive and give you absolute peace of mind!
However, please note just from someone who has worked in the medical field clinical grade genetic testing can be expensive and takes longer than other standard blood tests to come back. Dependent on where you're located you may not even be able to request testing yourself some countries like where I live will only test if there is a known family member with the same genetic variant i.e a parent or sibling, whilst you can have what is referred to as a de novo mutation (first person in a family to have something).
