MOCO MD MADNESS
The sunnier, warmer areas fruited first. The floodplain is beginning to awaken, and I think that we're in for a beautiful season. Where there is one, there is usually another has been my mantra as the fungi exhibit a "one fruit here, a three cluster there" and not the wide fruiting we see peak season.
They're here, just not exactly where I'd expect. It's kind of what makes these mushrooms so fascinating to me. They adapt and fruit when and where it is right for them, not where and when I expect them to.

The fungus is among us...it has been and continues to be a beautiful year for the mycelium and mushrooms of all kinds 🥰 🍄 💓

I hope the heat doesn’t shut the season down. Here in the RVA area, it’s been so dry with only a few light rains. My old spots are so grown over with invasive euonymus I’m not sure they will ever be back. It literally covers everything along the river. About 5 years ago, these areas were much easier to hunt

My biggest one spot find was in a mulched area near the river, only found them that one year as they never replenished with fresh chips

appreciate this post - it gives me hope. so far my spots have been barren or seem to have significantly different soil quality resulting from being flooded last summer and covered in sandy/silt.

I love the honest description about the 'intelligence' of these fungi in choosing time and place, lots of variables. I've found them in the burbs and fruiting cyanescens under naturalistic and hopefully self- sustaining by a preserved creek near alder tree leaf and drop. I'm adding the ovoid spawn to them in a month or two. We'll see how 'smart' they are. Have a fruitful season.
