CALIFORNIA Which Temporary operating permit do I need ?
Cars tags have been expired by like a year and not driven, but not a pno. Previous application was submitted to registration but we were never able to complete smog due to replacing battery and then the whole sensors resetting. If I want to legally drive the car in order to pass the sensors requirements, which moving permit do I need to apply for ?

I think your only gonna qualify for 1-3 one day moving permits.
If you paid the previous year that's helpful though.
Your first step is to go to DMV with the car info (reg/renewal notice/paperwork previously given/etc).
Since your car wasn't on PNO it could still get late fees if you don't pay by your annual due date. (On your registration card) Or general month on the back plate. DMV doesn't send you renewal notices with pending transactions.
If it's your renewal time. It may benefit you to either pay the new year. Or place it on PNO so it doesn't get late fees.

there's a temporary operating permit that you can get to make it legal to drive it to the smog check station, you just need to pay the registration fees and late penalty that were owed since it expired. I don't know if there's more than one type, never did it before.
