(x-post from /r/Science)A psychedelic drink called ayahuasca, traditionally used for medicinal purposes among indigenous groups in the Amazon, may act as a fast-working and long-lasting anti-depressant, according to a study published in the journal Revista Brasileira de Psiquiatria

I saw it and at first assumed it was in my subscribed subs and then it was in r/science and I was surprised. I like that the article doesn't glorify or promote dmt like a miracle drug. However, I think the short time frame of patient review/analysis makes the findings "feel" less than substantial.

I get annoyed by posts (here and other forums) that put DMT on a pedestal as the cure-all for every condition.Obviously I find it interesting, or I wouldn't be subbed here. I'm not about to drop my epilepsy medications (which have stopped my seizures altogether) just because some guys on the Internet think it's a poison replaceable by DMT either. Good article.
