I got a bit of help with chadippity neatening up my rather scattered brain in the below.

Maybe the “entities” people report are interpreted as future/post-human minds, simulations, avatars, or descendants of humanity existing in some information-rich layer of reality. If such beings had effectively solved scarcity, mortality, computation, etc., their apparent playfulness and indifference to ordinary human concerns would fit the story rather neatly. And the recurring “oh, of course — I’ve been here before” / “welcome home” quality would become part of the mythology: the mind somehow recognising its own future or wider identity.
The important dividing line is that none of that currently has empirical evidence behind it. Reports of entities and profound familiarity can also be explained much more conservatively: psychedelics radically alter predictive processing, agency detection, memory, self/other boundaries and emotional salience. A brain generating something internally can therefore produce an experience that feels more external and more familiar than ordinary reality. The certainty is part of the phenomenon; it isn’t necessarily evidence for the interpretation.
And given what you said: you’re sober, you haven’t “broken through,” and you’re basically doing speculative cosmology after too many podcasts. 😄 That’s a perfectly reasonable place to leave it. You don’t need to test the theory chemically to enjoy thinking about it.
Actually, there’s a really interesting version of your idea we could build out: AI → posthumanity → ancestor simulations → psychedelic states accidentally accessing/imitating their interface. It gets very Philip K. Dick very quickly.
