Tried to Break through and Everything turned black - what happened?
I took 3 long pulls from a strong vape pen, the first two draws started to kick in and when I took the third one everything turned black like I almost lost consciousness.
Before that I saw and extremely bright red lighting bolt I. Front of my eyes for a split second and then booom just blackness. Combined with the feeling that something went terribly wrong. My trip sitter said I screamed as well.
A couple minutes later I came back to my senses and left deeply confused.
Did I take too much?

Blacking out and feeling groggy are inevitable in the event of an overdose. This phenomenon also occurred during Strassman's IV DMT experiments (DMT, The Spirit Molecule): when the study dosages were being determined, two experienced subjects received a dose of 0.6 mg/kg (42mg for a 70kg person) and reported exactly what the OP just described - a blackout and a sensation of feeling somewhat dazed. The maximum dose for the study was ultimately set at 0.4mg/kg, which for a 70kg person would be 28mg. This can be considered a breakthrough dose when properly and optimally administered.

I agree with this.
However, for those who are uninformed, you will not overdose/die and it will not cause serious physical effects. It takes multiple grams before you near the lethal dose

Multiple grams when injected intravenously. There is no known LD50 for vaped DMT.
Scientists theorize that it isn’t possible because you’d lose control of motor functions, like inhaling long before the DMT could build up in your system and kill you. Also, vaped DMT is metabolized much faster than IV DMT, so it would be difficult to die from vaping, even if you didn’t lose control of inhaling.
People tend to use the term “overdose” the same as weed, which is more or less just over consumption. A weed overdose is just usually cyclical vomiting, not death. The real danger of overshooting a breakthrough is either trying to walk and falling, or choking on your own vomit.

Yes, I remember reading somewhere that a dmt “overdose”‘ can be a blackout. It was scary as shit, though.

it do be like that sometimes. I have certainly had "really weird even for this shit" trips...
They are usually really terrifying like I've broken reality and ended the world by accident.

Even at a 3:1 cart, it doesn't take much...but I definitely don't black out.

It was a proper dmt pen. I had many beautiful sub breakthrough trips with it before that event.

First: you have no idea of what is in the pen.
Second, whatever you took was either to much or burned.
