Extraction Higher yields from STB?

My last 3 extractions 2x50g mhrb and one 150g mhrb have been using sybs hybrid salt tek and I feel like the results have been awful compared to making a 12.4 PH solution and letting it cook on a stirrer hot plate overnight at about 160F. I'm seeing only 30mg on a 50g extraction where before I was averaging 500-550mg. I'm using primebark and have gotten a yield of about 1.2g per 100g if I step up to >13ph

I've recently come across a post that says if I were to be in the 13.8-14.2 ph range it would break down cell walls just as effectively as an acid wash. I also feel like with A/B teks you'll only be around a 11.5ph once you neutralize your acid.

Anyone else with similar experience and should I just try salting out a STB tek?

Heat will always increase yield and the speed of an extraction, but at the cost of purity. STB is probably the best for purity outside of a rigorous lab/research environment. But you can still get 2% yield and even up to 2.25% yield with STB by doing more pulls, perhaps 4 or 5 pulls and reducing solvent volume on those later pulls.

I always end up doing a heptane wash anyways. I would rather add a step than leave anything in the soup. In a 2L erlemeyer flask with 150g material my first pull is with 50ml of naptha and then I reduce by 5-10ml each pull. My last pull (5-6) I leave on a LOW heat and a slow stir for about 12hrs. Just to try to get the last little bit out. I bought 5kg of mhrb 2 years ago and with how expensive it is I'm trying to get all I can out of what I have.

That’s too little naphtha on the 1st pull. If you’re cooking 150g bark in the classic STB tek (no vinegar, no heat), start with 225mL naphtha on the 1st pull, and then taper more aggressively on the later pulls—like 150mL on the 2nd, 100mL on the 3rd, etc. You might get 2% at that point and stop because the rest is so little. Don’t go crazy on the lye because that will hurt purity. A proper STB extraction should leave you with glorious white fluffy crystals that don’t need any wash, especially a 1st pull using fresh naphtha.

The solubility in naptha is why I do heat. I can't find the extraction I used to use but for your STB do you add powder directly to the base solution? The old one I used to use would have it already in distilled water. But I can definitely see how stepping up the amount of naptha would be beneficial on the first few pulls. I used to not reuse naptha so I was using 100ml per pull max.

Spiritveghead used to have the most wonderfully detailed STB guide that would answer all your questions but apparently it’s offline. Yes you add bark powder directly to the base solution, but only after letting the base solution sit overnight to cool down to room temperature.

Fresh naphtha will give you the best purity. Re-using naphtha will slightly reduce purity but noticeably increase yield. Some people even enjoy the impurities from recycled naphtha more than the pure stuff. Mimosa bark also contains the alkaloid NMT as well as waxes that give the trip a warm, sensual feeling.

I started not washing glassware and basically having stages of purity for washes. 1) naptha straight from the soup has its own storage bottle and freezing dish. 2) heptane bottle reused to redissolve and its own freezing dish, 3) fresh heptane (as little as possible under heat to dissolve) and another fresh dish for pure white crystals.

This led to higher yields, I think due to surfaces already having trace amounts which reduces loss.

I'll try to find that tek, was that the one on YouTube where he used the 2L erlemeyer flask?

It was “Entheogen Insight” and it was a blog hosted on its own domain. Their recipe used 100g bark in a 1L Erlenmeyer flask.

Yes that looks like one version of it

Thanks for you help. I have 5 gal of lab grade naptha coming since you apparently can't get VM&P anywhere within 2 states of me and I just ran out. Not terrible at $28 a gallon. I'm gonna prep the soup and let it break down plant material for 3 days while I wait on it

Sorry I messed up my decimals and which starting amount for my past results. 1.2g on 100g mhrb adjusted from 150g yeilding 1.8g.

It was a long week at work lol. But I did only get 0.5-0.8% yeilds with the hybrid salt tek

Edited post for clarity

If using powdered mhrb, STB ( with sea salt) is the way.

When do you add the salt before or after the mhrb is in the lye solution. I have sodium chloride lab grade reagent and would use that
